What is one thing you can do today to find some joy? Even if it is just for a moment?

Hey friend! 🙂 I hope youre doing well. I dont know if you celebrate Thanksgiving where youre at, but I wish you a happy Thanksgiving and will pray for you today. 🙂
I know the holiday season can be stressful, and for me it can be lonely because due to my often haphazard work schedule, I have no time to celebrate and visit friends and family. I have today off but have to work tomorrow all the way until Tuesday for example.
Take care! 🙂
happy thanksgiving here in the UK we don't celebrate thanksgiving but today they are opening the Christmas lights in the town i live in have a jolly thanksgiving and i wish you all the happiness and don't work too hard enjoy yourself

I find when I catch myself thinking about the future too much then I need to pull myself back to today, to now. I need to do what I need to complete today. And that is all. I need to narrow my focus to the here and now and today. The future is out of our control and is not beneficial to ruminate future contingencies.
I find if I do have a very large future tasks to complete then it is beneficial to reduce it to steps. Then I do the first step that I have to do to move forward. then I go to the next small step required to make progress. But I do not let the total task of the future overwhelming at the present.
I hope that helps you take your thoughts from the future and bring them back to your present moment, and what you have to do to complete today. Remember it's just one day at a time. Take care.
thank you so much 😊 for your kind words @BadmattDillon1880
Today, my depression is at a 9. Between the hypothyroidism and degenerating arthritis in my knee, I feel like the staypuff marshmallow man. All I can assume is that I got worse sleep last night than I thought I did. Many times today, I wanted to die, to stop this cycle of stupidity. This job is abusive in many ways, and my boss is a nightmare. I don't want to drive 1 hour home, drive 1 hour here, and spend 9 hours here doing work that is handicapped by my boss's incompetence. I keep thinking how nice it would be if I simply didn't exist anymore, didn't have to do anything of this, and didn't have to wake up tomorrow. I don't consider this a crisis but an analysis of options to end the pain. In an ideal world, I would bring my stuff to my car, come back and compose an email to my boss and HR and said that I quit, 'I quit. You, my boss, are a pathological liar, a bully, a micromanager, and a verbally abusive bad person. I can't take working for you anymore because I want to kill myself during these very long days, while trying to do the work you micromanage and pervert, to stop the intolerable pain and suffering each day. This serves as the only notice you get. My cell phone and laptop computer are at this desk, and I hope you rot in hell for the pain and suffering you caused me'. Unfortunately, then I would have no money, we would have no food, I would lose the car, we would lose the electricity, and we would all become homeless. So, there again, move to 9.1 because death would be easier. Move to 9.2 because of no access to qualified mental health care or antidepressants.

Hey friend! 🙂 I cannot say enough times how sorry and sad I am to hear about your predicament.
This being said - please take a deep breath, focus on your positive relationships and friendships. Im your friend and always will be. 🙂 if you end your life, I will be very sad and miss you - I mean it.
Im afraid I cant offer much or any advice on your work situation but hope and pray that a better and more worthwhile opportunity comes your way. Today at church on Thanksgiving, I will pray for you because I am thankful to you as a friend and I really hope that your life will have peace. 🙂
@Darkseed Hi I continue to suffer from daily suicidal thoughts. I am at the 44 yr. mark of living with daily suicidal thoughts. I used to ruminate on the action plan. You don't have time for that you must work.
What I wanted to say was, one thing I told myself to get by was that I was "Living on the promise of tomorrow." Actually things do get better. You may have no evidence of that today but tomorrow can surprisingly be a better day.
I suggest you forgive your boss for being such an object of resentment. For your sake, not for his. So that you don't have to carry the burden of the persistent resentment. Study up on forgiveness. It can set you free without absolving your boss of wrong doing. Be patient with yourself if you ruminate about your anger at your boss.
At my senior age I now turn my daily suicidal thought into a counting game. I say "Oh, suicidal thought number one for today. " And so on until about thought #6 when I give it up.
You have two major problems. Your resentment and thinking that suicide is the only way to get pain relief. Actually you have other options that you can discover on your own or consider the solutions that worked for me. They might work for you.
I look forward to the day when you are free of this abusive relationship with your boss. It will happen. Your situation will not continue forever despite how it feels today.
Many times, I have to remind myself that the "evidence of today is not a predictor of tomorrow. The unexpected can happen and will." Things that you don't know today can change tomorrow, and your situation will be relieved.
But not until you own your tendency to resentment and self-pity. Seek forgiveness. It is a valuable tool. Depend on the unexpected events of a tomorrow. You can't even imagine what can happen tomorrow. You are predicting the future and cannot do that. It is not humanly possible.
I send you brotherly love as you carry this weight you are under, and the chronic psychological pain you feel. Let's look forward to the day you are relieved of this burden or you find the strength to bear it.

I really like what you wrote here. 👍
Im 42 (okay, 42 and a half 😂) and when I was about to become 40, was dealing with a lot of work stress too and with rampant short-staffing, am still dealing with it. Back then, I was having panic attacks (feeling like I was gonna pass out all the time and had symptoms related to or even of hypoglycemia on most days, particularly mornings) back then and wondering Is this how its gonna end?.
I came to realize later that by focusing on making good, trustworthy friendships and by not trying to compete with anyone or listen to those thinking of me as an old maid because Im not looking for or competing for romantic relationships - its helped me have a better outlook on my life. 🙂
