I honestly don
Failing then not having a chance to prove myself afterwards.
Often my depression can flare up whenever I don't feel like I have accomplished anything. I often fall into the trap of criticizing myself and I am working on trying not to compare myself to other. If I don't get enough sleep or don't eat enough food, this increases my fatigue and makes me feel even more unproductive. I have to learn how to disconnect myself from social media and not get too overwhelmed when life piles a lot on my plate.
My trigger is the feeling of loneliness that happens at night a majority of the time. Most of my nights are consumed by depressive thoughts because loneliness sets in and starts fueling the depression.
Pretty soon, all of my insecurities and anxieties continue to conjure up the depression and my night takes a 180 which only leaves my eyes red and puffy, my thoughts dark, my mind foggy, and that feeling of emptiness returning once more.
I usually give into the depressive moods because I feel too defeated to even try to put up a fight. It's like a kid or a pet that keeps doing everything in its power to get you to look at it until finally I give in and grant depression all my attention. But I am trying to reverse this pattern. I am hoping to become better at distracting myself so depression is on a much shorter leash.
When I feel the loneliness creeping in at night, which I identify as a huge trigger for the depression, I try to read a book, play an online game, call my parents and chat for a few, watch a comedy, or meditate. I am finding that just doing something to feel like you still have a sense of control and self, no matter how small it is like doing breathing exercises, helps to stabilize the depression. ![]()
@SmileEmmy night time can be annoying, that's when my mind wanders the most and have sad thoughts
Fighting with my husband or hearing from my mother or screaming at kids all day. A messy house. Being in physical pain.
The book "Speak" Just really gets to me
One thing that will trigger my depression quicker then anytying else, is if someone points out, either by joking or condesending remarks, the things I can no longer preform. It makes me feel worthless and re-examine why I'm still living.

Anything can trigger that empty blah feeling really. Most times for me its just being alone with your thoughts and nothing else, when my mind goes there and I start thinking of things like im never getting better or why am i still here. It can turn a fairly good day completely around in just a few minutes. I try to distract myself and avoid talking it through when I feel it coming and even if its only temporary, it works. Idk if thats good or just making it worse.
@animator23 Wow I feel almost Exactly the same! I'm still not sure what triggers the feeling for me but it sounded a lot like your point of view!
