What does depression feel like?
Recently a person told me : "I don't understand depression. I mean it's more of just attention seeking ." So depression can mean many things to different people. Many people have their own definition or way of explanation.
Might sound a little cliche but on really bad days it feels like an anchor tied to my legs. It feels like I'm being pulled down in this abyss of emotional distraught. Like I'm drowning in more sadness, apathy, self loathing, fear, just everything horrible. The best it feels for me is a balloon tied to my wrist. There and clearly noticeable but you can still perform basic functions and it won't bother you.
I'll keep mine simple, it feels like you have no air in your lungs and you're choking for air but you're breathing just fine.
Feels like Im immune to everything and Im cold all the time, taking cold showers were the best because I didnt have to worry about the pain
depression feels like a 7 ton boulder laying on top of me. There is no way for me to move it and no light can come it. I just need to wait until it moves off on its own.
Depression feels like when your trap in your mind , and cant find the way out of the darkness, and head is foggy . Feeling sad, hopeless, alone , feeling like nobody ever cares, or a person be happy without somebody .
depression feel like a monstor grabbing you and pulling you back into darkness

It feels like death visiting me during life.
It feels empty and numb. The world is less colorful and all the colors are not so beautiful. It feels like I have this bubble that I hop into from time to time and when im in this bubble people dont see me and they dont like me. My skin has this weird numb feeling to it. When I was a child that feeling would cause me to pull out my hair, as a teenager/young adult it caused me to make a lot of extremely reckless and stupid decisions, and now it just makes me want to pinch myself as hard as I can so that feeling will just go away. I sometimes wish at random times that I could disappear. I was grocery shopping after work yesterday (rough day) and the random overwhelming thought of wow if life is going to be like this Im not sure I can take it. Its awful because while its a random thought its also a feeling. I felt that like I dont know if Im going to make it. Its hard to put into words. All I want to do is sleep. I have to force myself to go to work, take care of my family. I would so love to have another child but its not a good idea for obvious reasons. I feel like a crappy mom and wife. I have no energy. I cant keep up with the housework. I have a very difficult time trying to prepare dinners. It sucks. It like carrying 100 pounds of weight around my ankle. Everything is so difficult. Everything. But probably one of the worst parts is thinking my husband is going to leave me because who the hell would want to waste their life with me.

It feels heavy. Really really heavy. All encompassing, everywhere affecting everything.
Sometimes I have a hard time putting my feelings about depression into words. I found a few quotes that spoke true to the way I feel.
"The only thing more exhausting than being depressed is pretending that your not." - Unknown
"I am not using my depression as an excuse. Trust me, I'd give anything to function "normally" on a day to day basis." - Unknown
@sncs0907 wow I really like these quotes! Where did you find them?
