Recently a person told me : "I don't understand depression. I mean it's more of just attention seeking ." So depression can mean many things to different people. Many people have their own definition or way of explanation.

It feels like a hole youre stuck in. As if its so deep no one can hear your cries for help and no one can see you suffering.

I explain it as if you were putting a filter on a photo, it's like a filter on life, a blanket that covers your mind, body and surroundings in blue or maybe drab grey.

Feeling like nothing. Like you'll never be good enough and everything you do wont change that fact. You are alone. Your friends and family and strangers want nothing to do with you anymore. They say it's all in your head and you have to get over it. But, unfortunately, it's not that simple. You can't just flip a switch or unplug so simply. You don't want to be alone but being with people makes you feel even more alone. Your drive is gone because you've lost site of what you were doing it all for. Your lost. It's dark. And you're alone.

Happiness, all of a sudden, became a game that I forgot how to play. That's what depression did to me.

No one wants to play with you if you don't know the game.
Altough you try to play, really really try, sometimes it doesn't feel natural anymore. You yearn to be good at it again.

How to you *fight* hopelessness?

@row036

I understand, there are aspects of my life that make me feel hopeless too. Many times I've been told to look at people who seemed more hopeless than me and who still did or achieved what seems impossible to me to find motivation, but I don't think it's a good way to look at it. I think that one way to find the strength to fight hopelessness is to look at what were your achievements, especially if you were surprised to making it when it happened. You were able to do something you believed impossible or extremely difficult, and you still have these qualities even if they are buried so deep that it's hard to know where to look for them

It feels like living in a body that's fighting to live with a mind that's constantly trying to die.

Depression feels like Im dragging a lead cape thats draped across the shoulders of my naked body. Its heavy and Im ashamed. I want to just sprint and run but Im so weighed down that I cant. Im vulnerable.
