What types of weapons do you have in your arsenal in your battle with Depression?

Yesterday I was talking with one of my clients and she shared a YouTube video that she checks out when she is feeling low in her battle. A lot of you have shared about what is somthing that Depression keeps others from knowing about you. I am curious as to what types of weapons you have in your arsenal in your battle against Depression?

I would say movies, friends, therapy, and books...the latter however impacts my financial situation (library is horrible near me on selection).

@ScaredRed if you are a student you can get Amazon prime for cheap, which gives you kindle unlimited. It's a library of a whole bunch of free books!!

@CassieColemanHepplerLICSW My best friend was the biggest thing in my arsenal, but he unfriended and blocked me on Facebook about 6 months ago. Now I don't know what I'm supposed to do. We'd been friends for 7 1/2 years & I don't have any other close friends. I'm also not good at making friends. It's just really hard for me to find somebody that'll be willing to put up with my akwardness and all that.

I think coffee (a small ray of sunshine in my day) and definitely motivational speeches on YT. I like Neil Gaiman's commencement speech he gave in 2006 - Make a good art. It somehow speaks to me on a personal level and he is also one of the authors that I really like. Other than that, Simon Sinek is a guy I recently discovered and he gave me a little bit of motivation to go forward.

I experience these small bouts of energy and motivation every once in a while, but none of them seems to stick and after a few days I'm back to my usual sad, unmotivated and tired self. From that point, it's always only worse and when it reaches its peak I go to therapy. (I'm a horrible patient, with how often I change therapists and how inconsistent I am but I can't figure out a way to stop it.)

I usually call the suicide hotline if I'm upset and I don't want to talk to my mom or my boyfriend. It's nice to talk to a third party about my personal problems sometimes. I also do yoga and intense cardio workouts. I watch hours of YouTube videos and can spend hours scrolling through pictures of beautiful houses on Pintrest. I try to read, but sometimes my focus isn't the best so I try not to beat myself up if I'm having trouble focusing. I would like to get into coloring in my adult coloring books more. I'm a perfectonist and think the colors need to match or be in the same color season (Warm Spring, Soft Summer, ect.).

Part of saying strong is pushing away all the bad thoughts and feelings and taking all opportunities to feel or experience something good! So many things can be good like a wave in the hall, not failing a test, singing or playing your part well in a music class, anything! You just have to focus on those things instead of what

@imsorryitry

what you are feeling is s common symptom of depression. It is important that you talk to your therapist about it and they can help walk you through those feelings. Thank you for reaching out. Someone else might see this post and realize they are not alone in this symptom.

if you are having those type of thoughts please reach out to a suicide hotline right away. Know that you are not alone in sometimes feeling this way. There are places and people who can help. I know I speak for everyone who reads this thread in telling you that.

no need to apologize. I want to let you know that I have to log off for right now, but I encourage you to reach out to your support system. It sounds like you are good with helping others, dont be afraid to ask for help yourself when you need it.

There is a place you can reach out to on a computer if you are having suicidal thoughts. It is called the crisis text line. It is set up for any kind of crisis you are experiencing.@Hope7879 Anyone who has a phone can text 741741. The people there must go through intense training.
