Am I wrong for wanting to be an adult
I am a 20-year-old who still lives at home I can't get a job because I am a full-time older brother which means I watch my siblings while my parents work. I don't want to mooch off my parents I don't want to take advantage of this situation it's kind of weird to say but I want to pay taxes I want to get a loan, and whenever I try talking to my parents about this they say that my mother will have to quit her job if I decide to get one and it makes me feel really crummy to think about because I don't want my success to be another person's downfall but I really want to be an adult or at least act like one I don't know if this made any sense
@understandingBeechwood6362 This there. 20 years old is an adult. I know right now it doesn't feel like it since you may not feel like you're doing "grown up" things. But let me share something with you-- sometimes being an adult means doing the things we don't necessarily want to do.
I get it. You're just a sibling. Your younger siblings may not be your responsibility, but watching them and caring for them is teaching you how to be responsible. One day you may have kids of your own.
I get it. You want to feel like at 20 years old you're doing this great big contribution to the world. You said you want to pay taxes and take out a loan. There's nothing wrong with wanting to work and make your own money. But I'll be honest here, I've never in my life heard someone say they want to pay taxes. Lol. (Just some light humor.) Being an adult is hard and you should be able to live and make a path that makes you happy.
I think it's very kind and noble of you to say that you don't want your success to be another's downfall. This comment let's me know you love and value your parents and family. If you didn't, you could just be one of these young adults who focuses on self and not caring about the consequences of their actions or how others in their life is affected.
One day though your parents will have to be willing to let you go to venture off and explore, to live, try, fail, and get back up. You'll experience so much. If it's truly want you desire and you're ready for, continue to have those heart to heart chats with your parents. If they are working, they can search for day care for your siblings. Or maybe a possibility is maybe your parents can pay you to watch your siblings. But then again you're living in their home, so it would only make sense that financial contributions be made for them providing shelter. It's a tough situation to be in. Every family household is different. I'm sorry if I'm not really providing help here, but I do wish that things work out in the best interests for you and your whole family. Best of luck!

is there a work around?
What I mean is if your parents work a day shift if you could find a part-time evening job, It would give you some independence and a taste of working. maybe your parents have days off that you would be open to working on those days. You are not freeloading by not working and watching your siblings is saving your parents money in childcare.
