Crisis Hotlines - Text
I come from a poor country where calling crisis hotlines take 3+ hours to respond to you, if they answer at all. Does anybody know of a text crisis hotline that responds internationally? This would really help
Hey @hansenandgretel2 , I am sorry to know recieving prompt support is an issue at your place :( but am so proud of you for being open to asking for support and reaching to professionals .
I am sharing the 7 cups crisis link , which has some resources and links listed ,
https://help.7cups.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026238093-Crisis , also Wikipedia has an excellent list of international suicide crisis lines, which can be found here.
I hope this was helpful . Please take care of yourself ❤ sending warm regards .
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou I searched both of those pages, and not one of those hotlines is international, as far as I can see! They are all country-specific. Am I missing something?
And most hotlines are staffed by volunteers, so it is usually inappropriate to describe contacting a hotline as "reaching to professionals". Even when a hotline is staffed by professionals, they might be professional call centre staff, or professional police officers, not necessarily mental health professionals.
To answer the question @hansenandgretel2 originally asked, no, no one here seems to know of a text crisis hotline that responds internationally. But some of them might not look too closely at the number you are texting them from, so you could try texting a hotline in another country to see what happens. If you do try that, maybe you can let us know what happens 😉
