We want to get to know you!
Hi I'm Joe. Feeling stressed, depressed, isolated, what have you. I keep looking years down the road and think, maybe things will be better then. Now, it's years down the road, and things are worse. I'm in my 40's. And, I'm not sure things will get better anymore.
Hi. I am new here. I have been struggling with depression since I was 9. I am 36 now. It comes and goes. Lately, it's come back with a vengance. I found this site and talked to someone. It helped. I've been crying a lot and secluding myself. This is a good way not to seclude myself while still being secluded. lol
Hello. I've had bouts of depression on and off for years, actually diagnosed a few years ago and on antidepressant ever since, but they aren't always enough, so I decided to try this.

Hi, I'm Madison and I've been suffering with depression since I was in 3rd grade, but it hasn't gotten that bad til now so I'm here to find help and if there is such thing as "hope".
@1Hopelessgirl
Hi Madison :) I think that there is such a thing as hope, but for some of us it takes more work and struggle to find. Keep in mind that people often have more appreciation for things they've had to earn, versus what they've been handed. Even if it takes longer to find what "hope" is on a personal level, it will be worth it in the end.
Hello. I typically post in the trauma support community (here). I suffer from depression, and sometimes anxiety. I realized the past year that I also suffer from traumatic impact and hypervigilance. For me, depression has typically been the most prevalant symptom in my life, It was the first symptom or condition I was aware of, and honestly the only symptom I thought I had for most of my life. Because of this, I have decided to try to focus on depression recovery while also chipping away at the impact of trauma.
I was first aware of my depression as a child, but instead of learning how to cope with it, I resigned myself to it for years, pretending to be 'normal' and thinking how strong I was for being 'okay' with my depression. I used to make jokes about my depression, I used to pretend it was like a persistent and unhelpful friend. I tried to define myself by my depression as a way of coping with it. I know realize that was all very unhealthy for me, but it's okay too, because that was the only way I knew how to move forward with depression at the time I realized that I had it.
Now I'm in my 30s. I realized just a year ago that my resignation was only making my depression fester. I decided enough was enough. I am finally taking it seriously. I no longer roll my eyes at depression recovery advice, try to take it all very seriously but not too seriously, and find that mindfulness and awareness and self-compassion reveal a true perseverence and strength I didn't realize I had. I still struggle with depression every day. However, I no longer self-harm, and ideations are sometimes not as loud as they used to be. I think together with a community of like-minded people who are also actively seeking some peace, maybe we can figure out a path that works for each of us. This post is taking a lot of courage for me to make, but that's probably just the hypervigilance and anxiety acting up. Thanks for reading and maybe I will see you around.
Hi. I'm a veteran, a divorcee, a frequent job-hopper. Don't have many friends. I am now realizing that I am experiencing severe depression, and have been for several years. I have daily suicidal thoughts. I do not intend to commit suicide, but pretty much every single day I find myself picturing doing it. I do not find joy in anything or in relationships. I often struggle to get out of bed in the morning and miss work a lot, which has led to being fired a couple times. I find it difficult to maintain friendships, when with friends I am unable to have fun or even engage much. Occassionally I find myself going way too far in banter with other people and saying extremely hurtful and personal things. I am currently without a job and am not sure how I'll make it past the next 2 weeks financially, I may get evicted and become homeless (which has happened once before). I also participate in the political world at the city level and the state level, where I try to do good for others (this has been a regular impulse throughout my life in various ways), but frequently face defeat at the hands of sociopathic politicians.
I have only recently considered that this may be clinical depression rather than normal situational blues, and could possibly be a chemical imbalance. I realized that the suicidal thoughts have been basically daily for at least the last 3 years. I do not have health insurance or any money at the moment, but when I get a new job and health insurance, I intend to start seeing a therapist and exploring solutions. That may be months away though.
