Hi everyone. My name is Megan. I've been suffering from depression for a years now. I've tried a lot of different methods of help (none of which were great/very helpful) I'm very isolated from everyone else and I was hoping this would help me a bit.

Hello Megan! Reaching out to people is a big step with having depression, so I'm glad you did. Just for reference, none of those "get better fast" tricks actually work. Leave me a message anytime if you want, I'm almost always alvailable. Know that you are needed and are special to those certain people, so keep on keeping on!

I've been on and off meds for over 20 years. Even before that I had low self esteem. My main problem is the negative self talk. I use a lot of escapism to get away from my thoughts on days I don't have work. But that also means I get very little done on days off then I beat myself up about that. When I tell people I have depression they find it hard to believe because I am bubbly when with one or two others around. Not so great in groups though. Many says I just wish I had a terminal illness.

@JustTalkWithMe Hey, welcome to 7cups and I hope that you find a safe place here to be yourself. It's good that you can recognize that negative self talk is a problem for you. I think a lot of people can relate to that. Keep talking here and working with those negative voices in your head...you can get a hold on them and get them talking more positively!

Hello, everyone. It is really hard for me to talk about my depression and all about it because I am always trying to be positive and to make this world a better place.

So, everyday sadness hits me when I realize in which world a live in - full of pain, hate, judging and unjustice.

I am lonely everyday and that just adds to it, but I'm still kind and I smile because I want to be strong.

It just scares me that the whole day I'm cheerful and when I get home and stay alone ideas and wishes about "rest" overpower me. I feel so tired, so, so, tired.

When I was younger, I tried cutting myself. I stopped not long after because I didn't want to hurt myself.

But, it doesn't matter how hard I tried not to be depressed, every time it overcomes me.

And even that just kills me more.

Hi, I'm Sam!

I've probably always been depressed, but kept most of it hidden due to being in an unsafe home until I moved out for college. I showed symptoms earlier, but I stuffed it down. Going to college was great becuase I was in a much safer enviorment, which is great! But it also meant I was "safe" to finally break down, which I did.

Depression keeps me from funcitoning sometimes, I'll be stuck in bed for days, or be sleeping over 16 hours a night. I deal with SI, but so far havne't recieved any extra help for it since I've never been enough of a danger to myself.

My combined mental illnesses have me taking a break from college, I'd like to go back once I'm healthy and can pay them the money I owe from my last medical withdrawl, though. I currently struggle to work part-time, and go to therapy every other week and see a psych nurse pracitioner.

When I'm well enough to engage in hobbies, I like baking, reading, spending too much time on tumblr, and sometimes knitting!

Hi. I'm new to 7 Cups. I like it so far. I've struggled with depression my whole life. Most people don't understand me. I'm lucky to have a couple really good friends who I can talk to, but they're not always available. I'm always looking for new ways to help myself cope. I'm a very creative and artistic person. I love music. I love to write. My kitties are my world, and I'm in the process of making some major changes in my life. I'm hoping to find some support and friends here.

Hello,

I saw a post about this website on Facebook. Not really sure about it? I think I'm having trouble navigating the website.

I guess this is where I introduce myself.

I've struggled with depression and anxiety in some form since my childhood.

I don't know where to start. I can't afford healthcare. I just want to figure this out.

Hi! I'm new here.

I've been having issues with depression ever since I was in the 6th grade, where I was transferred to section 1. (You know, where all the smart, rich kids are). At first, I could handle it. I didn't have anyone to talk to, and that was fine. By the 2nd week, I made friends, but some people went out of their way to make me feel more out of place than I already do, and my low self-esteem was even lower than before.

A lot of things happened, until I transferred to a new school. Not everyone's rich there, but we're all considered to be smart. I was really happy there, (though I still am a insecure because I'm a year younger than them since I'm advanced), until 9th Grade ended, and now I'm staying home at summer. I hate staying home at summer now, because all my parents do is to tell me that I just lay around, I'm lazy, I never help around the house. But they never really ask me to do anything! I try to help but all they say is that I'm a nuisance.

I'm a very sensitive person, and when someone shouts at me, I may cry for more than an hour in panic at the bathroom, and nowadays, the shouting has gone worse.

I try to talk to my parents but they never listen.

I just hope that someone listens to me, because I've never felt SO alone.

Thanks for reading

hi. last year i had my breakdown i felt numb for months, my grade dropped, and distanced myself from anyone, lost interest in my hobbies and didn't feel like doing anything, i often went to my escape place because i thought this place could make me forget aall of the pain that i felt. things that triggered me were i had no friends (i always have problems with social life and making friends ever since i was little) i kept failing class and blamed my parents for making me took a major that i don't have any passion at all, and hate the fact that i've always been invisible to everyone, i kept wondering why people don't give it a chance to get to know me first before they decided to not befriended me?. i didn't see therapist or get my self tested, because i didn't want my parents know that i suffered, so i just tried with online test and it did tell me that i had depression. i'm still not sure if that test could be trusted or not. i tried to tell my friends but they thought i was exagerrating, so i stopped talking about this. i felt so alone but i managed to get though that. but now the feelings come back. i still don't want to see a therapist, but i need to know if that's true i have depression or it's something else?

@lilpony

sounds like depression to me but there is no standard way to test for depression. Personally, I refused to seek professional medical help for my depression for years until 6 months ago. Don't continue to suffer; therapists are great just keep looking until you find one you like. Acupuncture also works amazingly well for me & could help you too. Unmanaged depression can cause several health complications.

Hi, I'm Saida. It sound like depression. I was going through the same problem. I suffer from depression, panic attacks and anxiety for about 4 yrs. I thought could handle it alone but I couldn't. This is my 2nd yr in college. I used get upset at my parents about my major . I avoid everyone. I felt like every day was a battle. I had to force myself to do things like getting up , eating, drinking, hiding my feelings...... I knew that I needed therapy but I afraid to tell my parents because they wouldn't understand..... I didn't go. I continued what I have always did for 3 months and I arrived to a point where I couldn't control my emotions. I spend my entire summer last year visiting Doc, specialist, and the hospital. That's when my doc referred me to therapy. Dont keep your feelings inside because it won't get better. Some colleges/university offer free counseling. Therapy can help. You can try to watch tedtalks its very helpful. Take fun class like as an elective or write. Spend some time outdoor. I hated going to counseling but It save me. I still get my old feelings back but when I do I talk. Every morning I watch tedtalks. When your feeling get worst dont give up!
