Fibromyalgia is a Real Disability! Questions? Ask Here!
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia, also called fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body.
My Story - I am a Fibro Fighter
I am Joy. I am a listener here on 7cups and i am not without my own struggles, i have many health issues mental and physical and i live with Fibromyalgia. There are good days - there are pretty damn bad days where i am in agonising pain and can barely move and cope with the overwhelming symptoms. I have chosen this time to tell you of my health because I believe the awareness of this illness is important.
You Can Ask Anything!
If anyone has any questions please ask away - I can't speak for anyone else's experience but i can explain mine. Whether you are a sufferer yourself, or you have a family member or friend that you are unsure how to support or just want to know a lil more. Please ask - No question is wrong - No judgement here!
Below are a few bullet points about Fibromyalgia…
- The most widely used criteria for diagnosis are: you either have severe pain in 3 to 6 different areas of your body, or you have milder pain in 7 or more different areas// your symptoms have stayed at a similar level for at least 3 months // no other reason for your symptoms has been found
- The extent of the pain used to be assessed by applying gentle pressure to certain "tender points", where any pain is likely to be at its worst.
- Fibromyalgia has numerous symptoms, meaning that no single treatment will work for all of them. Treatments that work for some people will not necessarily work for others.
- You may need to try a variety of treatments to find a combination that suits you. This will normally be a combination of medication and lifestyle changes.
- Fibromyalgia can also affect your mental and emotional health, and have a negative effect on your self-esteem.

Remember.... Please ask anything you wish - No question is wrong - No judgement here!

@JoyfulUnicorn
Thank you. I have it, too. I was diagnosed in my early 20's, a few months after I got married. It's a living nightmare. I am lucky to have my husband by my side..
As far as it being a disability, it is, I get both SSI and SSDI.
