Weekly Check In 18-24th February
Hey Disability Community,
Time for my next part of ACT Series
Day 5 & 6 of the Series up next
Day 5: Regain Power
Goal: To understand how fighting against or running away from our problems contributes to suffering.
Our natural instinct when we face a stressor or problem is to try to win (fight) or run to survive (flight). This is a hardwired process that we inherited from our ancestors to defend themselves against predators. The threats we now face today, however, are not larger predators, but internal and external experiences that cause stress.
Questions for you:
1.What are some examples of fight reactions?
2.What are some examples of flight reactions?
The more we struggle against, the more we suffer. A rule that captures this idea is If you arent willing to have it, you will. The more you avoid something, the more it has power over you. The good news is that you can regain that power by learning how to respond. One way to remember this is to break the word responsibility into two parts: response-ability -- Meaning we have the ability to respond!

Share your thoughts below to better understand this concept.
Day 6: Become Willing
Goal: To learn how to take things as they are.
Acceptance is the act of receiving or taking what is offered. Willing is a synonym for accepting. Acceptance and willingness can be understood as an answer to the question: Will you take me as I am?
Questions for you:
1.What are some examples of willingness?
2.What are some examples that are not willingness?
Bonus Activity:
Share your thoughts below to better understand this concept.

I hope it's okay if I don't take part in this, as I'd have a lot of catching up to do, and i have a lot on my mind already.
I'm just checking in to say that my stomach bug is finally easing up. I went for a short and slow walk, and I didn't get sick. My other disabilities don't seem to be getting in the way recently either, but I'm still going to take it easy on myself this week.
@HydrangeaField, Of course, the topic is optional for any who wish to have more topical check-ins
yayy the stomach bug finally easing up hydra and great to hear that the other disabilities didn't cause trouble either but sorry to hear a lot is on your mind right now your welcome to share here if you need
@CaringBrit I would like to share somewhere. It's not all disability related though...it actually relates to a lot of issues. Anxiety, depression, school stress, relationships, motivation... This is just a really rough time in my life. Maybe i can find a listener to talk to or something. If I post it here it would be very long, and some of it's rather personal.
@HydrangeaField
thats fine if its not anxiety depression motivation i can relate too sorry to hear about all those you have listed and yw to pm me or schedule a cat with me hydra
@CaringBrit Actually, I would like to schedule something. I've only got one recurring listener right now, and she's hardly on, so having someone to talk to would be nice.
