Weekly Check-In January 22 - January 28
I apologize if I'm making this a little too early but I just wanted a chance to make a check-in since last times I got beat to it 
For this week, I stumbled across some non-political articles pertaining to disabilites and I enjoyed them! What do you think of them? How would you write them differently or would you keep them the same? Enjoy!

I liked the articles , but I disagree with the writer of the article before me, people with disabilities are as valuable as anyone else, sometimes the general public treatment of us is bad, but I am a strong enough person to persevere .

I'm glad you enjoyed them like I did! And yes that one is a bit controversial but since it's non-political I always love to hear what people have to say about it!
The article about "The Disability Power 100 List" I can see how it is very empowering for so many people, and brings awareness. In my own life, however, I feel that the celebrated disabled are the people who have enough health and strength - or the support system and/or finances - to get out and do the things they want. My disabilities include several immunodeficiencies which keep me largely home-bound, and since my divorce, raising a child alone without child support, it's very difficult for me to feel any pride in my accomplishments. I compare myself too harshly to those disabled who are "able" in my eyes, able to get out and about and connect with people. But then I take a detached look at my kid and realize how kind and compassionate she is, and how being a disabled mom helped her get there. She's really strong and body confident, something I never felt growing up and have fought all my adult life to feel. So then I think of how many anonymous "Disability Power" people are out there, millions that don't make the top 100, and I smile because I've always loved big crowds. Party on! :)

I completely agree with you, and wow! You are such a brave and strong person to have to handle that, but I'm really proud of you! Not everyone can have as much courage as you do, so you definitely deserve to be #1 on the 100 list

@Emily619 First of all sorry I have been away. I have been trying to get motivated again, I'm okay just a litle down. Nothing serious, just haven't been here. As for Me before You I disagree with that article. I didn't have to read the whole thing because I don't agree that it paints disability as a tragedy. Will the character in the film feels helpless after his accident, and he does not want to live that way. It feels foreign to him, people deal with their disabilities their own way. Do I agree with assisted suicide, no. However, at the third time I'm going to request that I not be resuscitated if that time comes. I don't want to live like a vegetable.
I read some of the articles here, need to get to the rest.
I haven't seen the movie, so it's really difficult to agree or disagree with the article written about it. I have heard some pretty negative things about the movie though, so I suspect there are points I would at least partially agree with.
Overall I support assisted death - it was a pretty big topic in Canada last year. I view it differently from suicide although they are certainly related. For me, I think about it in terms of important points in one's life and an overall contribution to one's life. I have had days where if they were to be my last ones I would see no point in going through that extra amont of suffering. Overall, getting through them was worthwhile because there was lots of stuff besides suffering that came after them.
