Where I am it's the middle of tax season.

Money and disability can be stressful as can taxes but there can be good news for anyone who qualifies for certain benefits or medical credits as it may mean some money with tax returns!

How do you feel about filing taxes and if it helps you (or maybe you don't do that in your country, tell us!)?

Do you have a tax/disability related receipt organizing tip?

How are things going this week?

I don't file taxes and haven't in years because I get disability

Do you have a tax/disability related receipt organizing tip?

I wish, I've tried, not for taxes just in case the whatever on the receipt breaks, doesn't fit, etc. It's worked here and there except my husband is terrible at keeping receipts despite being nagged for 16 years to start lol

How are things going this week?

It's only Tuesday and 8:15am, but so far so good

@K87 I find this so interesting! Here, even without an income one has to file a tax return for quite a few benefits. Some of the disability benefits are included in that.

I know the US tax system is more complicated so I was expecting you had more sections to include there!

Glad the week is ok so far 😊

@AffyAvo

Honestly, I don't understand why myself. It's my household's only source of income and I'm disabled, but had only 1 job for a few months at 19 when I was declared disabled meaning I receive SSI and SSDI (I'm confused even as I type) and I started getting it in 2013, and all I know is apparently for some reason I don't have to do taxes...I tried to ask why but it's like they were speaking gibberish

@wonderfulRainbow817 Booo to owing money at the end of it! I know some people think of it as having had an interest free loan from the government, but not so great if it wasn't expected.

@DonaldK Oh, that sounds weird as you're the one getting the service! Hope it's not too complicated.

@AffyAvo I am always owing a lot during tax season. Because I take my helper's tax money out. So this is a sticky subject for me but it's OK.

Not looking forward to actually doing mine. It seems overwhelming, although in the past I have done them for friends, neighbors and family. I don't see well enough to read for long and entering data is very hard for me on a Chromebook. I bought a good keyboard to use with it hoping I won't have so much trouble. I do have a relatively organized stack of receipts. I must follow a calendar daily, as well as to do lists until neuroplasticity takes over and I am able to better stay on task. The calendar has pockets in the back cover I file receipts in by parking, mileage, medicines, equipment and visits. I hope that is helpful to someone. I would never remember but I bought myself a desk specifically to keep my medicines, calendar, to do lists and to go bag on. For anyone having memory or other cognitive issues, I highly recommend CogSmart.com for helpful (and free) tools. Hope all are doing well!

@adaptableOcean4193 That's an awesome tip, thanks for sharing that!

I know what you mean with the vision, as the last few years I've had issues and I thought it was due to skin conditions (eyelids are affected) but I have eye conditions too. Numbers can be hard. Luckily my husband was always the person to primary manage our tax returns. I usually look them over, I think a few years I just didn't have the 'spoons' at the time. This year I did look them over but I didn't have to worry when a 9 looks like a 0 or a 5 and 8 etc.

@adaptableOcean4193 do you do yours yourself or do you have someone to help you?

@DonaldK

I do my own. I may need someone to kickstart me this year. I just don't want to mess with looking up stuff online and changing tabs back and forth while I am trying to enter the data from one tab into the forms in another. I used to be good at that but since the brain damage, I am slow and it will take much longer, be more frustrating to put in the numbers, double check they are correct and actually put the cursor in the right places to open, close and enter. Makes a 'cursor' of me, if you know what I mean!
