Mother has very bad Schizophrenia. (How do I help her)

October 14th, 2019

My mother has schizophrenia. She is constantly hearing voices that lead her to have major panic attacks. How can I help her when she hears the voices? Is there anything I could say? Something I shouldn't say? Calming techniques etc

@honestBranch3491 One possibility might be to ask her what things calm her, and also what things can trigger a panic attack, so that you can help her to feel more in charge of her own situation.

There are also support networks in many countries for people who hear voices. If there is one in your country, they might be able to provide more expert support for you and your mother: The International Hearing Voices Network

You can also chat to listeners here to get support, and your mother can also join 7 Cups and chat to listeners.

We have a forum, Tips for supporting friends and loved ones with Schizophrenia, where you might be able to find some more information, and where you can ask more questions.
