Social Anxiety can be a disability
Hi, Sometimes I feel really awkward talking to people. I get scared or say the wrong thing that makes people upset with me. So I think social anxiety is a disability.
Social anxiety exists. I believe that I also have that. I am a mechanic and my husband and I have an auto shop .. but we work in a biligual community and I do not speak Spanish. I also have a hard time saying the problems with the cars, even though I could change brake pads, rotors, and a hub assembly in just about a half an hour! It may because of past situations because my mother was so critical to me and never thought I'd grow up to be anything. My dad was never there. I am a woman and I get greasy everyday, but I am proud of making an honest living. You should be happy with who you are. Those other opinions or random people shouldn't matter!
My social anxiety has had me hiding in bathrooms or my car, unable to move, for the littlest thing like being in a new place or being in a group of strangers. It's debilitating. And that's WITH anxiety meds.
I was taking medication for a short time, but instead, as a rebellious early 21 yr old .. I decided to screw tha meds & smoke weed & pop pain pills .. go out and party and get drunk. I could still sumhow manage working and going to college but .. I screwed up a lot. And b/c of my stupidity, I think that's another reason my social anxiety progressed over the years. I focus on my past mistakes, which is depression .. Look, Idk how old either of you are, but there is a way out. But being alone is one thing that will not help. Thankfully I found my husband, no matter how annoying he can be! But nobody can make YOU happy. YOU have to make yourself happy.
I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder (SAD) this last year. Before I started taking medication and receiving help, I was a mess. I would worry so much about presenting in front of the class that I made myself sick with worry. I walked down the hallways staring at the ground avoiding eye contact. I was always worried about being embarrassing myselfin front of others or judged by them. I hated when teachers called on me and I never even raised my hand for help. I struggled my entire life with this disorder and it has had a huge impact on my life. So yes social anxiety is indeed a disorder.
And a disability as well.
