you're just lazy!

May 5th, 2016

We have all heard that statement "You're just lazy". The fact is we're not lazy. We are trying to heal our bodies. Most of us wish we could do the things we used to. I know I do. I also wish people would take the time to learn about our horrible conditions and figure out ways to help us not degrade us. I for one wish I could put together an information party at a local park for all chronic pain conditions so people know they are real and we aren't making them up. Especially doctors who think " It's all in our heads". I'm lucky enough to have found a doctor who is amazing and that is thanks to the Mayo Clinic. I would like everyone who reads this to remember May 11th is Lupus awareness day and May 12th is Fibromyalgia awareness day and to wear purple to show your support. I know I will be wearing purple please join me in spreading the word that we matter to.

Well said!

So many of these chronic illnesses have symptoms that are invisible to others. To have to endure these symptoms is bewildering and painful enough, without hearing from others - 'well, you look okay'!

I'm glad to hear you're receiving the treatment and support you deserve. I shall be wearing purple on May 11th and 12th in solidarity with all those people who have to cope with these misunderstood conditions. 💜

@emmiann57717 I wish I could have seen this thread weeks back. Glad your getting the help you need. I'm thankful for my doctor to. My family is starting to understand that fibromyalgia is more than just a bad back, and I'm not just lazy, it's taken close to a year and alot of discussions in front of them with doctors and nurses for them to see. I just hate that looking ok means you are ok.

@emmiann57717 Yes, I've heard them all. I have Fibromyalgia which started when I was 14, but I was diagnosed when I was 16. I heard "It's just growing pains," or "It's psychosomatic, you just need to relax," etc. Some of my family still don't believe there's anything wrong with me. So I've learned to ignore what people say and get rid of those negative people in my life. Keep on keeping on! xx
