How do I advocate for myself and my friend?
Hi:
I recently got together for Thanksgiving with my friend and her family. Both of us are on the autism spectrum and we have been friends for 10 years and I have gone over to my friend's house for 7 years. Whenever I go over there, her mother and a few of their siblings act like they are above us because we have disabilities and can't do most of what they do. Her family is not very supportive of me. They brag about their accomplishments all the time but if I mention it, it's "That's cool."
1. I tried telling one of her sisters that I think it's time for my friend to look at moving out and she hinted that my friend can help their parents take care of their big house because their parents will be empty nesters in which she walked up the stairs laughing and I am so angry about it
2. Last year I told her mom that I would like to drive and she hinted that it's too hard and that owning a car is too expensive
I am pretty angry with both this mother and daughter right now and I have decided that I don't want to spend any more holidays over there. I have a lot of things that I would like to say to them but I don't want to come off as aggressive. However, how should I go about correcting them?
@Summershy
If you have strength and patience you explain to them, you talk to your doctors and tell them toexplain it to them, you talk to friends and common aquaintances and the community priest, everyone you can gather, teachers, everyone to explain and present your point....if the point is not taken after all this effort...
Fax tgem and stay away from toxic people who don't understand or respect you...move on...

To better places....

My friend's mom thinks she's all that and a bag of chips because she's getting a PhD in special education along with being extremely phony.

On the other hand, I am going to keep this friend because she is really nice but I don't think I want much to do with her family because they are not really interested in me. Rather they put up with me out of obligation because I am her daughter's friend. They could care less at how well I have done for myself because they are caught up in their own arrogance that it's not funny.
