"The human spirit is one of ability, perseverance and courage that no disability can steal away."

In what ways, do people with disabilities inspire you?

they inspire me because even though life is more challenging for them, they still don't give up.

People with disabilities inspire me because they are persistant. I have a classmate that has a side of her body smaller than the other side, and she really tries to do everything like the others, even when she is tired. Sometimes, she offers me help to carry my stuff, even though she also needs someone to help her. That's very kind :)

they inspire me in similar ways that able-bodied people do! people who are differently abled have unique challenges that shape their point of view, just like anyone else, and like others, they inspire me too!

They have to think of different ways to do some things and they can be so creative and clever with things to make their disability more managable.

I can also appreciate that they are so in tune with themselves (because they have to be) and are usually some of the best people I ever meet!

@Tazzie Happiness makes feel inspired. The joy with which they live inspires me a lot. It just feels like they know what it is actually to live. :)

I don't want to generalize. Instead I'm going to talk about the two toughest women I know.

My wife has multiple health issues, including very limited use of her legs; she uses a walker to get around in the house, and a scooter outside the house. Every time she has to spend time in the hospital for one of her other issues, she has to spend twice as much time recovering the ability to walk. But she does it. Every time.

My sister has severe fibromyalgia. She's also a professional massage therapist, and sometimes goes to work at pain levels that would have me or almost anyone else calling in sick. She says that it doesn't hurt any less if she stays in bed.

Kudos to your wife and sister. They are truly, truly strong. May we all learn from their strength and courage

@TheCollisionCourse Ask either of them and they'll insist that it's not courage, it's stubbornness that keeps them going. I'm pretty sure it's both, but I'm not going to argue with them.

I think it's safe to say that although we're making strides towards inclusivity, the world isn't really designed for people with disabilities. It may be a necessary resilience that people with disabilities have, but the act of overcoming those obstacles is inspiring in itself.

There are many obstacles people with disabilities must overcome to participate in society and life overall. No matter the nature of the disability, there's obstacles related to one's own physical and mental health, one's relationships, obstacles in finding support, financial obstacles, social obstacles (stigma is a big one, and there are a lot of rights issues that still need addressing and solving, such as immigration), obstacles participating in activities of daily living, and many more. I'm fairly confident there's many more I'm not aware of.

With all this said, I think it's pretty safe to say that people with disabilities face a lot and to face even some of these challenges requires perseverance and determination that I find admirable. It's the struggle and the fight to overcome, regardless of outcome that day, that takes incredible strength and resilience. And it's something I admire and respect.

They don't compare themselves with others but focus on making the best of what they got
