International Day for People with Disabilities
Hey everyone! As many of you may or may not know, yesterday was International Day for People with Disabilites. I'm a day late to post this, but it's never too late to celeberate! Maybe we can call it International Weekend, or even Week. I thought up some ways to celebrate, but feel free to add more and if you did do something, then please post and tell! I'd love to hear what you did :)
★ Lend a helping hand to someone with a disability
★ Create a blog post to spread awareness
★ Do volunteer work in your community for a cause
★ Encourage your community to do events regarding this, such as a 5K with the proceedings going to a disability fund
★ Spread the word and encourage your friends to participate in an activity with you :)
★ Spend time in nature
★ Give hugs to people who need them
There are so, so much more activities you can do but those are just a few that I thought of. Tell us what you did, and be sure to reward yourself!
Read more about it here
★ Special Thanks to @AffyAvo for letting me about this! ★
According the UN website the theme is Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want
https://www.un.org/en/events/disabilitiesday/
My city had a session on the Thursday. The theme here was Nothing About Us without Us. There was some really good information plus the event was a lot of fun. It was also interesting to see so many people who deal with a huge range of disabilities all together along with some of the things done to remove disability - and some not!
I took me a bit of clicking to find the 17 goals. So to save you the work if interested:
The 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world:
GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being
GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions
GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal

If you go to the above site, each goal is clickable if you want to learn more about it. I haven't included the hyperlinks here.
