International Stuttering Awareness Day

October 22nd is International Stuttering Awareness Day

Stuttering is a neurological condition that results in disruption of speech patterns called dysfluencies.

It typically begins between the ages of 2-5.

There is no cure, but a speech language pathologist can help. Early intervention reduces the probability that stuttering will persist.

The majority of children who start stuttering do stop with time, but some do continue to stutter as adults.

Stuttering is not a psychological condition, although people may benefit from counselling therapy to help with the stigma.

You can check out the National Stuttering Association for more information! They were my source for information.

Do you know someone who stutters? Or perhaps you stutter or have in the past?

How could you be supportive to someone who stutters?

This is neat, I did not know that there was an awareness day for stuttering. I myself have a slight stuttering problem, so I'm glad to hear this.

@L1ly0ftheValley Thanks for chiming in! When you do stutter how do you wish people would respond?

@AffyAvo - Thank you. :)

When I stutter and or tic, I would rather people just treat me normally, and act as if they don't notice it.
