International Women's Day - women with disabilities

Hello everyone!

Today, March 8, is International Women's Day!

Women and girls with disabilities continue to face multiple inequalities and discrimination in the society. They experience denial of civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights based on both gender and disability.

There is a lack of attention to women with disabilities in the development agenda, and gender and disability are rarely both mainstreamed into development programming. According to the World Bank, even when gender considerations are incorporated into development projects, the specific perspectives and needs of women and girls with disabilities are seldom sought or incorporated.

Your experience?

What is your experience?

How is it like to be female and having a disability?

What would you like to tell others about girls and women with disabilities ?

As someone who has mental and phyiscal health problems I do know that we are treated differently and it can be good and also bad .. I believe it is the same with Men they are also treated alot differently also..

I know for me people don't always see me out and doing things because I don't but yes now they can see my social media postings and think " Hey she is fine she does not have a disabilty at all " .. I can explain a million times over what i have gone through and I am going through and they still believe what they want to believe or say some pretty hurtful things or make remarks or even ask me to Help them with money ..etc.. even if I tell them I do not work!!

My work place that fired me did not care I had perfect attendance or that I was on so many teams in the building and doing my job they fired me and but first tried to get me to quit but I did not quit I knew if i were to quit then they could keep me from getting the help I would need... I was not dumb like they assumed I would be !!! I could not do my work anymore but I was hoping I could but they keep pushing me and pushing making calls and laughing ... well that did not work!! I got fired but I was also very aware of what I could do and that was use my disabilty insurance I had paid for out of my check and then use my remaining vacation days and I did have a 401k and I used them all and as I was off I applied for Social Security Disability and thank goodness I did !! I got approved on the last day all my Money ran out !! So they did not win I did !! I miss my job and loved my patients very much but the company did not want any part of anyone who had a disabilty and they sure did not want to help me out in anyway because I did make more on the hour and they wanted to replace me with someone they could pay less.

You do have to become your advocate and not allow anyone to stomp on you and make you feel like you can not accomplish what you set out to do. Let them fire you do not quit a job !! Unemployment will not normally pay if u quit ..

I also am treated differently by my family and friends because I am not the old me the one who did everything for everyone and was a doormat .. I had to rethink how I allowed others to treat me and how they affcted my life. I learned the best word ever a very simple one and that is NO! I now do not give out money and gifts willy nilly and when asked for money I dont have it anyway and if i did No you would not get it to buy drugs or go out drinking I also do not allow people to walk out the door with my personal things or borrow anything because they dont bring it back !!

People can be cruel and so uncaring and show no empathy or sympathy so we do have to realize that we are who we are and we are gonna be okay.. we may have to fight harder but that is what keeps us going !!

If you work and you are being treated badly please do not set back and take it because you do not deserve it and if anyone wants to be mean to you then walk away from them because having negative toxic people in our lives only makes us feel worse not them !

MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS !!

PHYSICAL HEALTH MATTERS!!!

YOU MATTER!!!

@Tyedyedbutterfly65 thanks for speaking up and sharing your experience.

I'm really saddened everytime I learn how people can be ignorant, mean and discriminating.

I'm proud how people fight and don't allow others to break them and I'm proud when people support each other so others won't break.

You're a wonderful person and you're fighting extraordinary challenges.

Thanks for everything you do!
