New to Strokes

December 27th, 2021

I've had a year marked by embarrassing public falls. In addition, I lost the ability to get myself up from the ground. I cant even cross my leg over my knee to put on my shoes.

I feel so out of touch with my body, and I'm afraid of what's yet to come.

After an MRI and a CT scan, it was discovered that I've had a series of multiple strokes. I've NEVER experienced an obvious stroke, but for years I've wondered WTF is wrong with me. Now I know, but accepting and integrating that into my life is still very difficult.

If any of you have any helpful suggestions, experiences or ideas...PLEASE shoot them my way. I'm suffering in a strangely singularly isolated manner.

Thank you SO kindly and with sincere appreciation. This is one of the roughest turns I've ever experienced.

How dangerous is your stroke?

Is it life threatening?

I think a calm &rational mind is necessary , which can help you.

Thank you. Yes, strokes can be fatal. Essentially, a stroke is a heart attack on your brain.

Hey there! I’m so sorry that you’ve had to deal with this. I used to work in long term care as a CNA, so I have quite a bit of experience taking care of those recovering from strokes.

My biggest tip is to find adaptable equipment that works for you. The world’s slowly been getting better at being accessible, so there are a lot of devices out there. Things like long devices that help you put on socks/shoes, grabbers so you don’t have to reach far if you have a bad side, and silverware with bigger grips I have all seen used and it helps people out a bunch.

It’ll take a lot of trial and error, but keep looking, I believe in you. Feel free to message me if you ever want to talk.

Seek out resources in your area. It can take a fair bit of time and effort, but I do find if you

re persistent you can often get some supports that aren't automatically recommended.

Do you have a PT program set up? Hopefully that's something that can help regain a bit of function!
