What is "Normal"?
When you think about. What do you really call normal? To me "normal" is however, you make it to be, Having Cerebral Palsy makes you no less normal, we just do things different.
What do you think is normal?
For me normal means having anattitude of being kind and respectful to others.
I don't really think anyone can say what "normal" means. Who can judge that? Every person has different views on things and will perceivedifferent things as "normal". For me, "normal" is an utterly subjective concept.
The concept of normality pretty much varies from culture to culture I suppose, unless you are referring to international/universal standards of normal levels like, nornal platelet count. Lol. So, for me, I guess being normal is being able to conform to a set of standards of a given culture/society.
Wish my answer provided some kind of insight. :-)
Cheerios!
Thanks everyone so for! True from a cultural stand point normal is living by the rules given. It is also true that you really can't define normal, being kind and respectful are good qualities too.
My boyfriend and I talk about this a lot. I'll mention the word "normal" and he brings up the questions, what is normal anyway?
We're both in college, at different schools, and we try to question things a lot to get a better understanding.
He doesn't have a solid definition of normal, but he doesn't approve of what we consider today as "normal." We were talking about mental illness and how we classify a lot of them as having "abnormal" behavior (illnesses like schizophrenia and stuff). And he doesn't think it's right to say that a person's behavior is "abnormal" because who knows? Maybe their actually the normal ones.
As for me, I'm starting to realize and kind of accept that we all have different ideas of what's normal, right, ugly, pretty, annoying, perfect, etc. Our general idea of "normal" is what it is now because we need some idea that can fit the masses so we can function as a society. It may be wrong, but we need to adjust it over time instead of having no definition and coming up with one later.
I don't believe that there is a definition for normal. Because if it was defined by an average or a common thing, it could still not be in existence. As you see a personality, brain of a human is a mental system so nobody could have the same mental system as it is self geared, therefore thereis no average. Which means there is no 'Normal'.
I agree Bella, I have not included the word 'normal' in my dictionary
I think normal is entirely relative. What's normal to me might not be normal to you, or anyone else. We all view the world through our own experiences :)
According to me, everyone is special in its own way. No one is normal.
Who is not normal
I have always been happy with not being classified as normal. I'm quite happy with being abby normal or not like everyone else. I have often wondered what normal is myself and have decided it is relative to the situation.
