Although I'm overall undecided, I either want to go into secondary education or the mental health field for adolescent therapy. I'd love to work with teens somehow smiley

I am very lucky, what I am doing now is what I love doing. I just wish I was able to make it to work more often ahhaha. I am hoping that I am able to keep this job and keep progressing down my current career path :) Hopefully my health will not stop be advancing though I do get worried.

@CaringBrit

This thread is simply becoming distressing. My thoughts are of death when I wake up. It would be better to be dead. At work, I am told to work in an environment where I don't have a designated work space or tools. The job is complicated enough and requires access to both of these to get the work done, and my boss is verbally abusive to everyone. My boss lies and uses manipulation to get what she wants, but not what the business needs. She approved that I could work from a specific location with the tools and designated work space, but later say 'well, we really need you there... in case... we get a chance to talk to someone... but he might not have a chance'. Why ask your worker, with harsh deadlines and overburdened workload to sit around where he can't work for a 'chance' to talk to someone. Yet, it's this manipulative lie and mishmash, 'oh yes, you can work there' 'oh but, oh well, we need for you to be there... uh, this is bad, you need to be there'. Why God? Why did I have to land under another boss who lies, but this time so bad to use manipulative lies and whining. I really hope HR understands that I am asking for a barrier to be removed and have a legal right to make the request and no retailiation. I don't want to go back to work. I didn't want to get out of bed and live this life.

@Darkseed your not forced to participate in this forum discussion if its becoming distressing for you

im sorry your being treated the way you are also do you currently feel safe

kindSoul10 October 21st, 2018

@Darkseed no, that's not the kind of things you like to experience. I understand how devastating it feels. We can't make people be as we like them to be, there will be no good outcome for this in most cases. But we are in control of our selves. Please don't give up on yourself, if you feel in a crisis reach out for a helping hand, contact crisis lines. You are okay for who you are and you matter!

my next 3 questions everyone as bit behind . new participants welcome please use question your answering in your post

What is the most difficult thing you have to face at work?

If you would think about improving the quality of the place where you work, what could it be?

How can we change the way people feel about giving more job opportunities to disabled people?

@CaringBrit

What is the most difficult thing you have to face at work?

Doing my job to the best of my ability and have it be enough for my boss. It feels like lately it's always I say "black" and she says "white" just to make things difficult. I like a challenge, don't get me wrong, but it just feels like a losing situation every day. My health issues and the fact that I'm on crutches certainly doesn't help the situation.

If you would think about improving the quality of the place where you work, what could it be?

Everyone would support each other on a work and personal level. It used to be really fun when I first started working here and now it's just a drain.

How can we change the way people feel about giving more job opportunities to disabled people?

Informing people that even though someone may look ok on the outside, they might be in so much pain inside and doing the absolute best they can. Don't judge a book by its cover! Be understanding and offer to help.

What is the most difficult thing you have to face at work?

The most difficult thing that I've had to face at work would probably be communication. I don't have a severe disability, but I do have mild Tourette's Syndrome, which can cause me to tic. Sometimes it would be hard to tell them that I had Tourette's because of the embarrassment associated with telling someone cheeky

If you would think about improving the quality of the place where you work, what could it be?

I think making it more accessible for people with physical or mental disabilities! Having ramps next to the stairs or assistants able to help out with people who may have a mental disability could help.

How can we change the way people feel about giving more job opportunities to disabled people?

Being more inclusive in job advertisements. I know that the city that I worked in has a city-wide campaign to hire people of all abilities, and they often include those who are disabled in their advertisements. I think it definitely helps!

Do you ever feel under pressure because you need to demonstrate others you are capable at doing your work?

While this doesn't happen to me much anymore, when I was younger that would often happen. A lot of times kids (or even teachers) would think that I need extra assistance to do classwork because I had Tourette's, but I think now that I've gotten older people are more educated and know that Tourette's isn't a learning disability

I don't need to prove I'm capable as I feel they already know that. The issues lies when I don't feel good and am not at 100%. Instead of being supportive, I feel like my boss is upset with me for not "bringing my all".

Sometimes yes because I forget! See, I had surgery in '04 for my seizures and yes it helped greatly, but they warned me ahead of time that it would effect my short/long term memory, attention span, and concentration. (I guess that's the function of our left temporal lobe) So, I've become a little slow now at learning things unless they truly interest me, like I'm ADHD or something! I like my job, but sometimes I forget things and it makes me look like I don't know what I'm doing. Or I'm thinking the correct answer, but it comes out completely wrong. I think you call that a cognitive issue?
