Resentful about autistic frenemy being successful

Hi:

Last night, I was in the process of reaching out to some of our networks at work about an event and happened to look up relevant contact information so I could share the event with some other people. As I was looking at the website, I saw something that made me angry, in which I saw an autistic frenemy being heavily involved in an organization that is connected to our center.

Basically, this former frenemy has an attitude towards other people on the spectrum in which he's superior and above other people on the spectrum. In his mind, he's too advanced for autism related supports and services but he is also very insecure. On several occasions, he has been very rude and disrespectful to me. He's even gone so far as to insult me in front of some really good friends and networks. He had the nerve to call me "Weird." He hates me because I am sure about myself.

I happen to going through a time in my life where I had a setback in my career due to some people doing what they could to undermine me and I have a feeling he was one of them.

@Summershy

It's not fair, why does he get away with being mean to others and get to be successful and I am stuck here.

First things, I think it’s best that you try to avoid interacting with this person. And remember to not compare yourself to others. It’s pretty hard to do so, but the main thing is just focusing on your goals and what you want to accomplish, instead of thinking about your failures and comparing yourself to people like them. Plus that person would have also hade a few setbacks before as well. Just focus on your own success, you own grind, and always compete with yourself. Don’t compare yourself to others. We will all make it in the end brahs

Thank you so much for your kind words because and yes, he had some setbacks a few years back where he lost his dream job and then ended up working in administration a few floors down from me. During that time, he said and did a few things after I thought I could reach out to him for help. However, he anything but let me down and push my buttons.

There were several times where I would get mad but would always shift the blame on me by making it seem like he was the one always stepping on eggshells around me. However, it was the opposite, I always seemed to embarrass him in front of his cool friends when he was really popular.

Put in the hard work, ESPECIALLY when you don’t feel like it. Rooting for ya.
