"The pain is all in your head..."

What's your experience with being disabled?...

A few weeks back, I was going to this place that has behavioural therapy, physical therapy and medical (?) help in one facility, which I will just call "Detriumentum" for now as...I am currently going to a separate physical therapy place, which I'll call... "Salus".

Anyways in Detriumentum...

The behavioural therapist was kind, I hardly really saw the medical therapist as they needed to see some labs to determine if I need anything prescribed, and...

The physical therapist at Detrimentum was probably one of the most uncomfortable experiences I've had with a therapist...

Basically, she told me that we "perceive the pain as more than we actually do" and told me "Oh no, you'll NEVER recover back to how you were before when you were a powerlifter" and kept on dismissing any concerns I had and talked down on me. Said Detrimentum is better than Salus and bragged about it.

Now...I've went through many traumatic experiences in my life, that were life threatening and worsened my depression, PTSD, and chronic pain...
Also, I was never a PROFESSIONAL powerlifter, I was just a hobbyist weightlifter.

I didn't see the need for her to really throw that in there saying I'll "never" attain to how I used to be when she knows nothing about me NOR my body.

During the visit, she made me do meditation by breathing in and out of my NOSE and laying there for 5mins...That was it. Said I only needed physical therapy for 1 day a week...

Now, currently, I'm taking physical therapy with Salus for two days a week. I only considered Detrimentum, because they said my insurance might not cover if I take behavioural therapy at Detrimentum and physical therapy at Salus ---At Detrimentum, people are forced to go to behavioural therapy, get medical treatment, and have physical therapy for FOUR HOURS a day for 3 days a week...It's not plausible in my situation, as I'm a solo parent, the other parent is not involved in our life in any way.

At Salus, my physical therapist is phenomenal and kind. She said we can work towards my goal of being able to weightlift again and asks about my pain levels. For certain things though, I will need to see a doctor, as it is a different type of pain that I'm experiencing....

I need to look for a different behavioural therapy clinic to help with the mental issues I'm dealing with.

Anyhow...

Have you guys also experienced such insensitivity from others due to your disabilities?

I've experienced insensitivity & lack of tact from medical personnel, but it wasn't due to my main (& current) disability.

...just goes to show you: in any field or profession, not everyone working in it is suited to his/her job. Some people make it into jobs or careers they really shouldn't have.
