I identify with this article so much. For a while, I struggled with this, I had basically become my diagnosis for a while.

I still have the bad days, but most days I am living with my chronic illnesses!

What helps you to get out there and be living with your chronic pain or illness?

@AffyAvo I'm sorry you didn't get a response to this thread! I read the article linked and I thought it was really informative and so true! I also live with chronic pain and for me, I manage it by always setting a goal each and everyday. Sometimes my goal on a particular day may seem small and insignificant, like getting out of bed and trying to smile. Other days I come to 7cups and devote my time and efforts to helping others. Other days I will force myself to get out and breathe in some fresh air.

I definitely agree with the article, you must always move! Even if it's just a little activity, you should always set a goal in mind each and everyday. As Mark Dayton said, "Idle time is the devil's play."

@KindListening. Actually what helps me is my partner. She somehow keeps me thinking forward. Also coloring is A great way to excape pain and be creative. However as with everything else what works for one person may not work for another

@KindListening Thanks! I didn't mind the lack of response, I just figured since this resonated with me, there were likely others out their with a chronic illness where this could help them out.

Like the article mentions, it's normal to stagnate and be stuck for a while. Especially with more serious symptoms, a new diagnosis, etc. It's ok to be focused on just getting through that tough time while not really meeting the 'living' points here. It's useful to have this list though I think for when it's time to come out of that just getting through each moment. To find a new, living normal.

@AffyAvo Finding the "new " normal is the hardest thing
