Thinking of leaving home - Budgeting help!!
In the next few years of my life i am planning on leaving home. i cannot live with my parents for ever. i am starting university this coming september, and was wondering if any past or present disabled students could give me advice on both being a student and independent living. an area that particulaly concerns me is money,. Bugeting etc. Rent Costs.
Any advice on any extra support available as i cannot work while at university, I already have Disability Living Allowance and Disabled Student Allowance.
Many thanks
@convivialPlum6966 Hey there!
Here are some suggestions for budgeting while you are at school
- buy your textbooks online.. not from the school's bookstore. If the shipping won't get there in time, purchase the books from the store and then return them considering the return policy. Or the book might be available at the school's library
- contact the school's academic support office - they might have paid student notetaker positions, which maybe not conflict with your financial aid package
- if you have an option to choose a cheaper meal plan, that might be worth considering
- start building up your credit school and looking into your credit history - this will be considered for any apartment/house you want to live after school.
- set up a student checking account - There are some great offers for students that include free checking and savings accounts, allowing you to avoid fees on withdrawals, fund transfer etc.
