I have someone in the uk not by a major city who can't read or write. Any resources?

@brilliantSugar17 When you say you "have someone" it's not clear what your relationship is to this person. You cannot possibly mean that the person is a member and you chatted to them as a listener, because they would have to be able to read and type in order for that to happen, and also your role as a listener would be to provide emotional support, not to help them solve their problems in life.

Anyway, in the UK there are four countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) with slightly different ways of organizing things. If someone in real life asked me about learning to read and write, I'd suggest they go to any local library, or call the library, and ask a librarian what to do. In a remote area it might be a mobile library that only visits occasionally. If they don't know about any local library, their post office or doctor's reception desk would be good places to ask.

Another option is to call their local council (the local government in their area) and ask, but getting through to the right department in a government office might not always be easy. I think the key phrase to use with bureaucrats is "adult literacy".

And another option might be to ask whoever is in charge at a local church, even if the person is not a member of the church.

Some remote areas, but not all, have community outreach workers who will visit someone who has needs of any kind and put them in touch with appropriate help. But these services are different in each area, and the only way to find them that I can think of is to ask around locally.
