Volunteer thing
Hello @Hopeforfuture12 , welcome to the community!
I hear you're needing some encouragement and support in order to overcome your fear regarding your disability causing you problems at the volunteer place and letting people down or them not accepting you . I assure you before starting anything new such fears of letting people down, taking time learn - making mistakes, feeling a part of the team /community and people accepting you are all so valid and you're definitely not alone.
I'd like to reassure you that, your disability might be a part of you but it is not you , you are way more than that and least of all, you have the willingness to learn and the heart to try and volunteer your time and efforts at a place , these alone make you already so much better in what you want to do and achieve !
Mistakes are a part of life and often the best way to learn something is by being corrected of a mistake we committed unknowingly ofcourse, no body absolutely no one knows it all ~ we all do follow the same learning curve ! You will too ❤ now there's 2 kinds of people, one who wants to and happily supports in building people up , teaches them through their experiences and knowledge without making someone feel down for not knowing something or for making some mistake ...the other kind , they often forget that once they started similarly, through being a beginner ~ honestly, it's not our mistake that while moving up the ladder they forgot what humility is like. So we really can't control what someone thinks of us or if they accept us , but we can do our best , be committed to our work and hope to always meet more of , the first kind of people and try to be like them too 😊 never hesitate to ask for any help or support or if you have any doubts regarding anything !
Something that helps me overcome self doubt is removing people from the " perfect pedestal " , no one is perfect, not them, not me , we all try and manage to make the most of available opportunities and resources to make ends meet ! If they can do it, so can I and so can You ! Also since no one is perfect , do they really have any authority to judge us or make us feel bad for not being something that doesnt even exist in reality ? I think not !
As for acceptance, I understand the struggle but know that your disability will never define you or limit you in anyways , we never have to try to fit in, the right kind of people , your people will find you eventually and being with them will come as naturally as ever ! The ones that accept you for who you are and the ones that uplift you! Just Gotta take one step forward towards people!
I am so glad you're considering volunteering. Would you like to share what kind of ?
Listening at 7 cups is a volunteer work too, in my experience I've found it so rewarding, fulfilling, satisfying ! I've found so many " my " people here and I assure you, you will too, in wherever place you go , just be yourself , you're amazing that way !
Remember you can take your time always, at your pace , no rush at all.
Rooting for you and wishing you well for this upcoming opportunity! ❤
