How to classify chronic pain?

How does one know if they have pain that is considered chronic?
There seems to be a grey area that doesn't met the definition of acute nor chronic, is there a term for it?

Different diseases sometimes have different timeframes for chronicity.
Generally, days to weeks is acute. More than 3 months is considered chronic.
Maybe someone else had the word you're looking for.
