ACDF 😢
Hi.
I’m not sure if it’s ok to post this here but, I’m just looking for some insight please ☺️
I had the surgery in May. I’m on the 6 week mark of transitioning back to work. I was out for 6 months. All of my disability pay is gone. So there’s no room for a gradual/accommodation return. I’ve tried.
I had the weekend off so I felt good. I worked yesterday and today my shoulders are sore. That muscle, ache sore that just wants the heating pad.
Feel stuck. 😢 between emotions, pressure with the house, finances. And not over doing myself. It’s hard.
Has anyone had this surgery? Know anyone? Any advice? Please and thank you.

How do you feel now?
Sending you love and healing hugs!
I haven't had this surgery, I wish I could offer more insight but I wanted you to know I'm always here for you 💜🥰
You didn't say what surgery you had? I'm a paraplegic since the age of 24 from a coal mining accident. So l have had many surgeries but never shoulder surgery yet which at my age of 68 could easily be needed as l push a wheelchair. Did you have rotator cuff surgery? Or something more serious? I hate that you are sort of between a rock and a hard place. They are never fun. But can make you stronger in the end, and able to encourage others in similar circumstances. So if you want to talk more. Just text back in. Prayers going up for you this morning after I send this reply!

The surgery was ACDF.
It was a procedure that removed a disc in my neck and replaced it with a titanium cage, that has bone tissue inside. The hope is to have new bone fuse around it.
I had to have it performed as I started having severe pain down my left arm.
I understand muscles, nerves, and even bone are adjusting right now.
Sometimes I’m able to be kind to myself and other times all I can think of is the surgeon saying you no longer have restrictions and that makes me feel I should be able to accomplish all and anything.
My goodness girl! You have been active here as l saw all the badges you have! Amazing. This is my 2nd day. I love all that l am seeing as l bounce around looking and texting some. Such kind and caring people everywhere! I signed up. Paid for a month with an expert. But after writing out my full story, my full situation, l realized that the therapist can't possibly think of anything l haven't though of and tried as l go through burning pain in my feet the last 44 years. But heck. $150 is little to pay to have found all the people here struggling one way or the other. I was "lucky" to have been on disability all these years, working only as many hours as they would allow without killing out my disability. The wheelchair part isn't my disability. The pain is. Like you spoke of in your shoulders! But I've found that emotional pain is far worse than physical pain and you seem to have a load of both! Please keep pushing forward. That is all God expects of you. It may not seem like it. But you will come out of this a stronger person in the end. People born with a silver spoon who never experience hardships are generally emotional weaklings! Not all, but many. Money problems mixed with physical problems are awful. They destroy marriages and numerous sad outcomes. But not always. Thankfully. I have grown so much from hardships. Money problems included which really weigh on you. God says he gives food to all creatures and cares when l sparrow dies. You are worth far more than a sparrow! Made in God's image. He knows your needs and he will meet them, even if not in the way you might hope. His ways are mysterious! His love can feel more like hate at times. Almost like an earthy father discipling his child to teach them. It is never fun to be paddled as a kid. But you learned from it. That's how l see hardships in life. But reaching out to others takes courage! Bravo for your vulnerability and willingness to ask for help! I hope more people respond to your post with actionable things to do! Love you, hang in there! Things will get better!
