Struggling to accept + isolation

So, I have a mild/moderate hearing loss (last I knew of, could be worse now) that I've been struggling with for about 5 to 6 years now. I was not born hard of hearing, so it's been a struggle for me ro adjust, especially since I'm only 24.

I was already struggling with depression since I was very young, and the hearing loss/tinnitus made it so much worse. It made me more isolated. I don't have friends anymore and I struggle to interact with coworkers because I can't understand most of them and have a hard time keeping up with conversations. I live in a small town so there's not really any irl support groups I can go to around here.

It just sucks so bad that this is my life. There are things I want to do and experience, I want to interact with others but I CAN'T.

Sometimes I feel like I could beat depression if it wasn't for this. Having a hearing disability means permanent isolation and social rejection

@strawberryblue97

Welcome to disability support.

I feel isolated a lot too. I just don't have the energy to go out much and there are many things that I just cannot do.

I have found it helpful to find others who deal with similar issues, and have found groups both online and face to face.

I think when we experience loss of capabilities it's also normal to grieve. That can lead to more problems with depression, but some of it may be temporary too. I suggest try to be kind to yourself as much as you can, hopefully that helps a bit.
