Physical Recovery!?
So, im only a little underweight according to my bmi at the minute Ive not eaten a tremendous amount more day to day, more at weekends or special events with friends so this is how ive gained from my lowest weight since ED.
I'm only a few kgs off of my lowest 'healthy' bmi, which I'm sure I'll gain very soon.
But im so confused. How much do i need to eat?How do i know if and when my body is recovered? Is being overweight a possibility during/after recovery? Should I still or need to eat a large amount of calories? No one has explained any of this to me because I avoided going to my GP to get referred to a dietician in the early stages of recovery, infact, GP has only done one ECG and weighed me twice since i was referred to the ED clinic (a year ago). And of course ED meant I would not remind them. Im just stabbing the dark!
Its been so long I have no idea what it feels like to be ‘healthy.
I just need some practical advice. I don't know anything about physical recovery!! Which is something i need for mental recovery also!
Help!?
@breadmakingviking - first of all, congratulations on how far you have come in your recovery - that is an enormous achievement and I'm really really impressed and proud! In terms of how much you should be eating, that is really hard to figure out on your own, and unfortunately, without being a dietician/nutritionist, I can't actually answer that for you.
You said that you previously were avoiding GP/dieticians when you were deeper in your disorder, but does it feel like an option now to reach out to one for some guidance? They would be the best able to give you an answer specific for you.
If that doesn't feel like an option, you can look online for sample meal plans, but those will all be individualized to someone else, so they aren't necessarily ideal. I'm happy to talk in more detail over PM if that's helpful, but I unfortunately don't think I have any clear answers for you. Good luck and take care!
@Anomalia THANKYOU! I think I'm gonna go to my GP about it, I'm just worried about their response, they never seem to care.
@breadmakingviking - I'm glad to hear you're going to talk to your GP. If they don't seem to care still, hopefully they can at least give you the resources you need or help you to find a dietician/nutritionist who can help you come to a plan that works for you. I think it's especially helpful if you can find one who has some experience with eating disorders so that they better understand, but any should help to get you on track with where you need to be. Good luck and take care!
