Hi everyone,

Im 27 years old and have struggled with BED for about 10 years. Last year I was put on [edited] but eventually it got out of control because I became addicted. I took 2-3x my daily dosage ([edited]) and would crash into major depressive episodes when I ran out.

I quit [edited] 9 months ago, realizing it was controlling my life. Fast forward to now and Ive gotten a new psychiatrist and therapist. Ive finally addressed my major underlying issue, depression. Im feeling great but my binge eating has come back. Ive tried every off-label med for it but none have worked out. My new doc wants to put me back on [edited] at a very low dose. Shes aware of my addiction last time and why I quit. Im worried I will become addicted again but also recognize that Im no longer depressed like last time and have the support of a weekly therapist.

Anyone have any experience using [edited] for BED? What are your thoughts?

@MLE1234 - Hi there! I'm sorry that you didn't receive a response before. I did need to edit your post because we are actually not allowed to share medication specifics in the forums here.

I can definitely understand why you would feel concerned about going back on a medication where you became addicted in the past, but also think that it's important that you are recognizing the differences in the situation this time. Have you talked about this with your therapist as well? What is their perspective on it? If you do go on the medication, what do you think can help you check in with yourself or with them to make sure that you're not letting it get out of control?

Hey, I have experience with binge eating mysefl as well, but personally I haven't heart before of client who were put on medications for this.

I understand from your story that the underlying problem was / is a depression? Or came the depression later than the binge eating disorder? This could be important to think about. Binging / not eating can be a symptom of depression. In this case, the depression is the major problem and the binge eating is probably not a disorder ''on it's own''. However, if the binge eating is the major problem, it's more an eating disorder. And depression can be one of the symptoms of that.

Of course you don't have to answer these questions here, but I think it would be a important thing to think about for yourself if you feel uncomfortable sharing.

I hope I can help you further. Maybe we can chat some time to talk in more depth about this?

And I'm so sorry for this late response btw
