Hi, never posted before on 7 Cups but needed to talk about this topic.
I'm 27 and have had an eating disorder for most of my life. Anorexic (very underweight) for many years through out school. Then went to binge eating (gained weight) + torn my achilles... so that was fun...not! Then bulmia moved in went to treatment first time (needless to say I wasn't ready) did the whole "got better routine". Went to treatment second time.It was terrible at first but as I got healthier my mind was working better. Better able to see the progress I was making and the thing I needed to improve on. I gained more weight due to medications...I am now very overweight (it's funny that now is the only time my family has been worried about my weight saying that "I'm going to die if I don't do xyz") I have beenlosing a lot ofweight in the past 6 months the way ED wants and I'm unable to talk back/rationalize/etc... thing are getting WAY out of control. I really just needed to reach out and get this all off my chest. Thanks
PS not really sure how any of this works but thanks all the same XOXOXO

@Laura How I Almost Let Body Image Ruin My Career
The success of my career was dependant on the number on the scale. The number on the scale told me how worthy I was that day, it told me if I was worthy of asking for more out of life. My life was dependant on a sliding scale, a constant moving target. This drove me into a phase of stress, social-anxiety and lack of confidence. I held myself back from going for more, simply because I didnt think I deserved it, yet.
Until one day, it dawned on me. I was letting career pass me by for fear of not being enough. I realized I had to move into where I wanted to be before feeling ready. By doing so I would develop the confidence. I was the only one standing in the way of achieving my own personal greatness.
I got to that stage not because of worry and concern, I got there because my knowledge, confidence, and who I was. I was accepted, valued, and trusted to take the next step; it was my job to take it.
We often talk about capacity, but not the capacity of our minds. For every second I was worrying about my figure, or how people took me at face-value, I could focus less on what was important: my message. My message is a story of not only what I know, but how I interpret and deliver it. Im there because Im supposed to be. Im the most qualified person because of the hours dedicated and the passion expressed. 10 pounds, 5 pounds, or 2 pounds here or there didnt matter.
Moving forward, understand that we are where we are because of who we are, not because of the number on the scale.
I was skinny all my childhood and teenager years. Skinny fat, per say... but everyone commented on how good I looked.
My close relatives abused me verbally, saying I looked too thin and disgusting, to get me to eat more while my cousin who was way thinner than me got praised for being beautiful. That double standard thing made me realize, no matter what, they wanted me miserable. So as soon as I gained few kg, started controlling my weight to go back even lower, so I could show then, their opinion doesn't hurt me!
Then inpatient treatment for depression came, medication for psychosis (anti-psychotics) and went from almost underweight (from starving myself) to overweight in a year, while restricting my food sometimes, and binging rest of the time. It went so fast the first kg, all my clothes stopped fitting me instantly, doctors didn't believe my restriction and told me to lose weight, called me lazy, fake, attention seeker. Family called me "chubby" "fatty" "rounder" and told me I looked bigger and gave me tips to lose weight like "cut off bread" "cut off salt" "just go on walks". My mom said I looked disgusting. My dad called me "cow-looking".
I haven't yet gotten to my pre-eating disorder behaviors weight, which is a normal healthy weight, but... I dream to. Because right now i'm closer to overweight every day, and in recovery from binging/restriction cycles and... it's tough, let me tell you, it's tough. I feel judged because everyone who knows me sees me as lazy because i've been skinny up until 18 and then... BOOM suddenly put on so many kg (won't say the number to not trigger anyone) that for them it's my fault! It's me who let my own self get lazy.
Even though I workout 3-5 times a week, people think I don't workout at all, because I look like someone who hasn't seen a dumbell or yoga mat, in years... when in reality, just 2 days ago I was sweating on my workout! I feel judge yes, because if I tell people I workout or if I join a gym, i'll be judged as the girl who does nothing for herself, because of my body. Even though I'm not as heavy as I used to be, i'm scared i'll go over that number.
Hi my name is hunter and I'm 15 I play a bunch of sports and I've lifted weights since I was seven years old but I just cannot develop my pectorals they have some fat on them and it seems like I have man boobs but what I've come to realize is that God made me this way for a reason god has a plan for me if your struggling about your weight don't people that judge you have a flaw also but don't judge back be a bigger man or woman don't let people get to you, when you become successful and they don't what will they say then......all that matters is that you need to love yourself
Hello. I'm 20 and I'm from mexico
My parents never told me I was fat, always say things like and do not eat much, do not eat sweets or bread; although sometimes they told me that I was saliento more rolls so my mom put me on a diet or be 30 minutes on the bike but still not down; all that was in elementary or secondary, it was just a girl who wanted to eat sweets as others.
When passing school also they cared or said he should get exercise because "I am prone to obesity," when I was already overweight
As I started to diet last year to half the Univerdad and now my 76 kilos I am weighing 48kilos; but now I must bear to tell me I'm a stick every time they see fat people on television say that if you do not care so I shall return. Me great fear when he says things about food and my weight; nor do I like them to see me eat, it is as if they saw me as I am getting fatter every time I eat. Complete counting calories and binging giving me so many restrictions.
Now my mom is proud of my thinness but not know how to reach it.
I realized that I can never meet the expectations of the people.
I'm extremely anorexic. I have a bad proportion. I considered as a tall person but i only weighed 38kg. People from the other class made a fun of me, they talk shit about me behind my back. They even dissed my appearance also my face shape.
It sucks tbh. I just want to live normally like other kids do, but why is it so hard? I also find that i have no appetite when i eat something. My mom told me to eat breakfast every morning, but eating in the morning just made me feel like i want to throw up. Sighs.
@Laura I'm 92 pounds at 4'11". My grandparents tell me so was my great grandmother and that there's nothing wrong with me, but my parents consistently snap and yell and get angry at me for being "too small"/"too skinny". They verbally abuse me, compare me to wasted-away homeless heroin addicts and point them out and tell me that's what I look like and I cannot go one day without being put down about my figure. I'm nervous about going out with friends because they blow all their money on junk food like chips and candy and I don't eat those (only natural things and healthy food/produce) and they look at me like an alien. I've ended up going broke just to conform to what they think is normal so they wouldn't start asking me too many questions or not want to hang out with me and I end up giving the chocolate and cookies to my parents. I feel like I don't have a lot of control over what happens to me, but I'm super clingy about control over my own weight and I do get aggressively shamed at home for it when ironically no one in the family will make such an effort for their own health. I'm sick of my parents' hateful, hateful behavior and commentary and not one day has gone by where my mom hasn't either made a mean comment about my physique or passive-aggressively pushed unhealthy food on me.
