Self talk for triggering food
Whenever I see any of my trigger foods like snacks or baked goods I tell myself “I’m craving this, I already know how this tastes, and it’s not the last time I’ll ever get a chance to have this , do I still want to eat this right now?” This self talk has helped me gain a little self control over how often I’m eating foods that trigger a binge . Hope this helped
@Ericmwalker That's a great tip on how to self talk through the urge and bring your mind back to center on it all - thanks for sharing!
In that same vein, one thing that I have found helpful before is to say "I am allowed to have this, but I need to wait 20 minutes first" (or whatever length of time feels right) - and then focusing that time on something that is more recovery oriented or provides a good distraction. Sometimes 20 minutes later, the urge is still there, but often that's enough time to break up the urge, while the permission to have it afterwards can calm down the intensity in the moment.
