It's terrible! When you wake up, first thinkis food. When you're hungry you want to eat a little, but because you starved yourself you're still hungry and you eat too much. While youre eating, youre thinking about vomiting. Then you look yourself at the mirror and you aren't happy. And your go to the bathroom... And you feel relief... it's important to get help early

I think a lot of people have a misunderstood concept of bulimia. While it is true that the majoirty of bulimics force themselves to vomit, this is not necessary for a diagnosis to be made. The characteristic of bulimia is a pattern of binging and purging; but it can involve any number of purging methods from extended periods of restriction following a binge, intense exercise, laxative abuse, diet pill abuse, and so on.

To answer your question, living with bulimia nervosa is hell. You wake up and your first thought is about food. You will constantly think about restricting your caloric intake, but then it gets to a point where you are so hungry that you finally break down and eat. But you don't just eat one thing, you eat everything in sight. It is like a total loss of control and as soon as it is over you will feel completely disgusting and you will want to get rid of it.

It is a cycle that repeats over and over and over again. Your whole world revolves around food. You will plan your days out around what you will or will not eat and you will become extremely effective at lying to your friends and family about what you are eating. You will become socially withdrawn because you will not want to go to any social events involving food. You will push everyone away and retreat into your own lonely mind.

I guess to put it simply, its pure hell.

hi im new here and its my first time to write on this forum. my bulimia started around the age of 17 and I am 28 now. so its been long. I have been trying to recover for 3 years now but not 100% committed. in and out of recovery!

to get straight to your question of how it feels to be living with bulimia everyday, there you go:

you feel chained, chained by you eating disorder, hindered from participating in many things, including the very simple things suchas sitting with your family for lunch and not having to find an excuse as to why you have to leave or go somewhere else (while knowing that deep inside they know youre lying but they just dont know what to do anymore),

chained from simply travelling with friends (like you used to prior to bulima taking total control) because you worry about how will i be able to eat huge amounts of food in order to purge it

you feel isolated, suffocating from all the feelings and thoughts you keep pushing and pushing by you bulimic behaviours (knowing theyre not going anywhere, theyre justingcompiling inside of you)

you feel like youre the biggest liar and most hypocrite person on earth

you feel stuck, because as much much much as you would love to get rid of it, its just soo hard

you dont feel like a normal person (you feel different from ppl and different from who you use to be

you self confidence goes down to below zero

you loose empathy, you become harsh

you feel abandoned by ppl even though you might be the one pushing them away

you feel veryyyyy irritated most of the time and aggressive as well especially around the urges

sad, lonely, controlled, anxious

DISCONNECTEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!! i dont know how o stress this more here!

you feel everyone is watching you even the ppl who have no idea that you have bulimia

you feel very very ashamed, letting yourself and your parents and loved ones down!

you just try to push through the days with no real purpose and you feel like youre loosing interest in everything around you (again disconnected)!!

I feel so sorry for th harhips you feel with this terrible eating disorder. Please do not feel that you let anyone down, as this is not your fault. Try to embrace any support you are fortunate enough to get. I realize this is a tough disorder to have. I would imagine that keeping positive and accepting help, and being open about this may help. Good luck

I also appreciate what you are saying but I do feel ashamed because I'm 14 and none of my friends are like me, I am always happy at school but when I get home I just want to kill myself because every time I eat I feel ashamed and then when I purge I feel even worse.

Honestly I feel like it is one of the hardest things a person to deal with. Its a disease with no cure. Everyday is a battle and the smallest things make you want to go throw up. It can be eating to much or feeling like you are being watched or it can be a fight with a friend. Everything is a trigger and you feel alone. I personally feel alone throughout my battle with this disease and it sucks.

Trust yourself that there is a cure. there is but you just need to take ver slow and baby steps until you get there.I'm not saying it will be easy, NO it is really hard but just baby bay steps and you will see that the positives will add up and slowly it ill be easier and easier.

You also need to understand why your feelings trigger your bulmia. and i believe that therapy is really good at making you understand this disease. even if the syptoms last but at one point when you understand why you're doing what your'e doing you will start to get hold of it and not vice versa.

I wish you all the best and everyone else who is in this battle with us.

Constant insatiable hunger. All I ever think about is eating.

i spend most of my time thinking about food and how to lose weight. i think about how fat and disgusting i am 30 times a day. every time i am about to eat something, i think " no, you dont wanna eat that!" but in the end i always do. and after i eat i almost panic. i dont want to get any fatter, so i justhave toget the food out again. the other problem is doing it without anyone notices. no one understands. even not my twin sister...

Thinking about eating. About food, all kind of, and thinking about which stuff might be easiest to vomit. Thinking about when and where to vomit, about cleaning the bathroom, about the smell afterwards, about the all the trash.

Gaining weight, or at least not losing weight. Strange thoughts like "I want to be anorexic at least", the feeling that you will never be satisfied, that food is both friend and enemy... and the everlasting question when and if it will ever stop.
