@Hope Because in my view, recovery from eating disorder is a long process :") And recovery from ED and self care is somewhat related. (I dont know what I wrote :p )

@Pureriver55, I agree, it is a long process and we need to take good care of ourselves throughout it!

I find if I don't take time for self care I end up feeling overwhelmed, then the ED voices get louder and louder until I end up binging/ self harming. For me taking time for self care is a non negotiable part of recovery. Now I just have to remember to remind myself of that more often lol.

@Iliketherain, Yes when we don't take care of ourselves the Ed voices do get louder and louder and we end up listening to them. I am glad that you recognise the importance of this step! yes, we do need to remind ourselves from time to time.

I think its important not only for those with eating disorders to practise self care, but also for the carers. friends, family etc because they are on this journey too, and go through lots of very difficult emotions about their loved ones and their eating disorder. Those with eating disorders may not always be able to appreciate the strain and stress that an illness can cause when watching someone do battle with an eating disorder. Its affects everyone and therefore everyone needs to be taken care of

@dancingRainbow45, I think that is a great point! yes, they are on this journey! Indeed it can be hard to sometimes appreciate the people around us when we are overwhelmed with our ED. It is a good thing to remember, it affects the loved ones too!

Self care is such an important thing, even if someone doesn't have an ED, in my opinion! Both our minds and bodies are OURS. They take us through our lives, so we should take care of it (even if someone finds it hard to accept our bodies just as they are, like me). Nobody deserves an ED or any other type of mental illness.

Agreed it is important even when we don't have an ED. I like how you view it, yes, mind and body are ours and in order to live a better life, their acceptance is important.
