Comments about other people’s bodies make me feel worse

My family has this fun habit where they like to point other people’s weights a lot, or some of them like to mention how much they think they need to lose weight….It just makes me feel so horrible about myself, every time I hear them say things like that

Like, they’ll start making fun of someone they think is overweight and all I can think about is, “if they think that about them, what must they think about me?”

It just makes me feel so horrible about myself even though it’s not even about me and I find it really difficult to interact with food and my body in a healthy way. It can totally throw off not only that, but my entire day honestly

Any tips, I guess? Or even just anyone else experience this?

Getting them to stop isn’t really any option. I don’t know if I have an eating disorder, but I have disordered eating for sure.

@convivialZebra8368 Honestly if they know you have an ED doesn't matter. NOONE should EVER fat shame anyone, especially strangers! (but also friends, family and so on). So telling them to stop fat shaming should be an option. "Just" tell them that you don't like hearing them fat shaming others/making fun of overweight ppl, bc it's mean and rude :)

I feel the same way about other people making comments like that. Even when people point out that I've lost weight and try to congratulate me, it makes me feel worse about how I was before. Just know that just because people say things like that, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you. Comments like that are never okay and I hope they stop making them. Much love <3

Sometimes family and friends who aren't in tune with the impact that words or looks can have on someone on someone related to their body, can be so frustrating.

Experiencing this from your family, I would encourage you to know that you are beautiful as you are and for who you are.  No one else's opinion or comments change that.  Yes, it doesn't feel good if it is directed at us, but you are not just words.  You are an important, unique person who is just as you are right now - and that makes you special and beautiful.  Don't let anyone tell you differently.
