In Denial?
Hi everyone!
I've had issues with binge eating since I was a child (puberty I think kicked it in). Since July, I had been getting off and on abdominal pains that led to nausea, sometimes heaving. I was in so much pain on Thanksgiving eve that I went to the ER. A CT scan showed that I was a.)very constipated and b.)have a thick stomach lining. It didn't kick in until last Sunday that I may be dealing with an eating disorder.
I binge at least once a week, and then I take laxatives to flush myself out. I could eat my entire house, actually. When I was 12-13 I would binge on junk food, and then I'd record it in a journal and attempt (and fail) exercise routines. For the past few years, I've been able to eat entire boxes of mac and cheese, half of pizzas, and have whatever's for dinner (this happened last sunday tbh). I never count calories/carbs/fat, but I do look at a food's fiber content.
MY PROBLEM: I want to change my habits and I want to seek help. However, I feel that I don't qualify for a specialist. My fear is that they'll see my and tell me I'm fine. What should I do?

It can be very hard indeed to deal with a binge eating disorder . I am sorry you are struggling . If you would like to read about coping strategies , you can here
@raccoonangel - I'm really proud of you for seeking help here and for deciding to take the first step and reach out to a therapist! I understand the worry that people won't take it seriously, but in my experience, if you can find someone with a little experience in eating disorders, they will understand and will treat this as the serious thing that it is. I think seeing a therapist is a really positive choice, but I know that often that's only part of the solution, so if you could use some extra support between appointments or just someone to check in with who is familiar with eating disorders, you're welcome to message me! I'm not a professional, but I can always listen and support you, and it's a topic I'm pretty familiar with. Take care, lovely!
