What do you wish people knew about your eating disorder?
I wish people Knew that when they made comments about weight or looks it isn't really helpful. I know they mean well but it tends to just be triggering.
i wish pepole to know abut me that i am a empath spiritul healer
@LeoTheLlitteLionCub1 I am not sure what that is, what is that?
Something else I wish people understood that recovery isn't linear. Just because I'm eating now doesn't mean everything has magically gotten fixed.
@Laura
I wish that they knew what it felt like. I wish they knew the hell that they expect me to live through every day.
I wish people understood that the tiniest things affect it. Like every single day I hate walking up in front of the class and bending down to get my computer from the charger (we all have them at my school) because I'm scared I'll look fat when I do. Or like when they say oh I eat way to much and I've eaten more than them I'll probably throw up my food. Like it's not just the big things okay?
@tranquilScenery68 I totally agree! People always say not to sweat the small stuff but having an ED causes you to do that anyway.
I wish more people realized that it happens to older adults as well (I am almost 40) and that some of us have had to deal with it since childhood. Meh! :/
@KatieMoon1
I totally understand, Katie. It's easy to feel invalidated by others when the "socially acceptable" face of eating disorderes is a middle class, cisgender, white, American, overly-sensitive, dancer or gymnast highschool female. It's a stereotype we have to fight, so don't feel invalidated. Your problem is real and solvable and you're doing great by just reaching out :)
@Hrupkost
Thank you. I have never received treatment for my ED and only embarking on it now. I'm worried about how people will see me, but I have hope that most people are open minded about it. It's a real problem, no matter how old I am.
@Laura... I wish people knew how I keep feeling afraid of gaining back my weight. I check my weigh everyday to make sure I don't gain more than 1 to 2 pounds. I make sure I eat lots of veggies and fruits. I hardly eat any fat, no animal products and I limited my nuts. I am addicted to staying below my normal weight.
I wish people would understand the lingering shame that accompanies the the recovery process. I still have to revisit my 19 year old self and try to empathize with her thought process many years later.
I wish people knew that I hate doing it. That I know all the side effects how rediculous it seems as i'm a pretty intellegent person. It doesn't matter about what you know. It can affect anyone. I wish people stopped dismissing me when i mention it because i'm 'too smart to do something like that'
@JJ314 Preach. I'm in the same boat. Having old-fashioned relatives doesn't help much either.
ED logic: You're taking AP classes and got admitted into multiple college honors programs, but a latte can push you near an emotional meltdown.
That it's a constant battle in my head, 24/7.
