Eating Disorder Community - How do you actually feel today?
Muy periodo disappear,im just 14!!every time i look into the mirror i fell disapointed
Having your period disappear can be one of the frightening realities of an eating disorder, and I can understand having a lot of worries or disappointments around that. What do you feel would be most helpful to you - to talk to a listener here, to tell your parent(s), to talk to someone at school?
Sad, and mad. My mom just made a comment about being anorexic like it's a joke which makes me even more scared to tell her about my bulimia. I feel like binging and purging tonight even though I don't want to break my cycle.
@decembernight0608 - the little comments that other people make without realizing it can be so hurtful, and can make it so much harder to open up about what's going on. Despite her comment, do you feel like she would be willing and able to support you in recovery if you talked to her? How are you doing today? It sounds like you've been making a lot of progress in stopping your binging and purging, which is incredible and takes a lot of strength. You can do this!
@Anomalia I think if I told her she would be more than supportive it's always just the little things that make it scary. I'm doing OK I wasn't feeling well yesterday so I'm just trying.
@decembernight0608 - I know it can be really scary, and you shouldn't do it until you're ready, but I'm glad that she will be supportive when you are ready to talk to her about it. And in the meantime, so happy to hear that you're feeling a bit better today. Keep up the awesome work!
I hate it why can't people understand this is like a release to me! A big fat release. Starving itself isn't as dangerous as making urself vomit. When it's all I've we have on thing running throughout our minds. "im fat" I hate that word
@kiwi101 - I think eating disorders are one of the hardest things for people to understand who haven't been there. Too many people view it only as the restricting or the purging, which are actually symptoms and coping mechanisms for what's really going on underneath.
Starving and vomiting are both dangerous for your body in different ways. If what you need is the release, are there other things that have helped you get the same feeling without hurting your body as much?
I feel bad I'm anorexic and bulimic, and I was forced to eat lunch by my boyfriend I would go to the bathroom and throw it up, I feel bad because he took the time out of his day to make me eat but I just can't help but throw it up
@Tamaracherry - It's hard to start the recovery process because someone else wants it instead of you, but I think it's great that you have a boyfriend who knows and wants to help you. Do you think it would help to talk to him about ways that he can best support you? If you ever just need to talk through things, don't hesitate to reach out to one of our fabulous listeners here!
Thank you and Yes I've been talking to him he told me to take baby steps and I'll be OK
Feeling pretty good, trying to make it through the rest of the day without purging I've made it to my 2nd day so in trying to keep going.
That's great! Congratulations on day 2, and stay strong!
Scared, I really want to open up about my eating disorder but I just can't get the words out.
I sometimes find it helpful to write it all down, either before saying it out loud to make sure I have it all, or to write it down and give it to someone so they can read it all and see everything and I don't risk missing something important - do you think that might help you? Also happy to chat if you want to talk about different ways you can approach the conversation or just need some encouragement before you do it!
Thank you, but I told my parents It took me awhile but they were really supportive and it made it a lot easier for me.
I'm SO SO happy for you that you were able to tell your parents and get their support! I think that will mean so much in helping with your recovery to have them on board. Congratulations!
Keep fasting and breaking It with a b/p session. Makes me feel utterly horrid, but i keep doing it. I need to get it together but i keep falling apart....
It can be so hard to break out of a cycle like that. Do you feel like you have support from people around you that you can lean on when you need it? In my recovery process, I found it really helpful in breaking those cycles just to be able to talk to someone when I had the urge to b/p or when I needed help getting through a meal I wanted to restrict. If it's not someone in your life right now, you can also always grab a listener on here and see if they can help. You can do this, I promise!
I need help with my eating disorders... I don't wanna do this more.
@yume55 - I'm so glad to hear that you want to stop. You have the strength and the power to recover within you, and now you have the will to do it, too. Have you reached out to anyone in your life for help yet? There are lots of resources out there, and any of our listeners would be happy to chat with you and help figure out options, but if you're comfortable telling someone in your life, they might be able to offer more hands on support through your recovery.
I feel like I'm going backwards. I am constantly fixated on my body image and preoccupied by what I am eating vs. what I should be eating.
@harmonycalling - Can you identify what is making you move backwards? Often when I felt myself slipping, I found that if I could figure out what my trigger was and deal with that, it helped. Be patient with yourself and be kind to yourself. You can get through this slip and get back on track with recovery, and you can reach out to anyone here for support while you work on it. Take care!
I'm feeling OK today, I almost made it to day 3 but I broke and it sick but I'm not going to give uo. Having my parents support is really nice and I really don't want to let them down even though it's a real struggle.
3 days is longer than last time, so that's great progress! Recovery isn't easy and it's not without slips, but taking two steps forward and one step back is still a step forward overall. I am so impressed by your determination - keep it up!
