Introduce yourself to the 7 Cups Eating Disorder Community!
hi everyone!
i go by serene or serena on here <3 hope you all are having lovely days.
my anorexia started due to bullying around 5th grade/middle school. in high school, as an athlete, i was working out around 12 hours a week, which developed into exercise addiction. with that comes a lot of body dysmorphia, and most days i struggle to understand what i look like.
right now, i'm in recovery and trying to spread a positive message of self-love and acceptance. i am vegetarian and do not drink milk either <3. my workouts are less intense and less frequent. i really enjoy yoga and pilates.
i decided to recover because my eating disorder made me really angry, spiteful, and jealous to others. i didn't recognize my behaviors anymore and how i treated others. my boyfriend snapped me out of it, and i'm working on being strong and never getting back to that point ever again <3 . i also decided to recover because i was getting dizzy and fainting spells, and it has been affecting my schoolwork and daily life.
sending love and support to everyone here. my inbox is always open <3 <3 <3 <3
@CarthageSea You are doing amazing! Well done! You should be proud of the person you are going to become!
Hello,
I just joined 7cups not too long ago. I'm still trying to figure things out on here. I was never diagnosed with an eating disorder - I just struggle with food and my body image.
I've never liked my body for as long as I can remember. I distinclty remember a time in elementary school where I was looking in the mirror trying to suck my tummy in and being dissatisfied with how I looked. My family talked about weight a lot when I was a kid. When I was super young I was quite underweight but started gaining weight in elementary and middle school. I have two older brothers and three older sisters. My parents always talked baout my sisters' weight and telling them they need to lose weight or whatnot. My oldest sister went off to college and when she came back she had lost a dramatic amount of weight. Everyone praised her and complimented her (I didn't know at the time that she really wasnt eating enough so it wasnt healthy), so I just internalized that my life will get better once I lose weight.
Fast forward to college, I started struggling with binge eating - I mainly binged sweets. This was tied to some depressive episodes I would have and the stress of college. I yoyo dieted and tried counting calories, soon I became obsessed with the nutritional facts of everything I ate. My eating didn't really change but then I was feeling bad about literally everything I was eating. Sometimes I would intentionally starve myself even if I was really really hungry. I would also punish myself with working out.
I just want to have a healthy relationship with my body and be the happiest I can be. I hope this community will help!
Hi Im Kate! Ive been recovering from anorexia since last year and am doing really well.
My anorexia started with having body image issues the summer going into 7th grade. I thought I would be happier if I was prettier and skinnier. That summer I had a food comment that rally hurt me. My step mom told me sugar makes you fat, and I beloved it. A few months later, I got braces and used that as an excuse to restrict certain foods (sugar) because after all I was told to avoid eating certain foods. At thanksgiving, I remember binging over all the foods I had restricted and my stomach hurt sooo bad. Then I tried to excercise to burn it off.. At Christmas time, my restrictions got worse: I restricted desserts, grains, and fruits. Anything with sugar in it. At this point I was scared of natural sugar too.. 3 months later, my eating disorder became very very obvious when you could see my bones 😬I would eat hardly anything at all meals so I would cry and freak out when someone tried to get me to eat. I didnt know anything was that wrong because I thought it was normal... I went to the doctors a week later and was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. After that I went to an eating disorder recovery place once a week to visit a dietician and therapist, and Im sooo thankful I did!! At first I was very angry with them because they gave me a meal plan, but it didnt take long for me to realize how sick and skinny I was. Today, its been a year and a half and Im really happy to say Im almost recovered. 🤩🥳
Hello, my name is Ozeana.
When I was 12, I had anorexia which forced me to go to the hospital and then to a clinic. It helped me, and when I got out, I thought that nothing like that would ever happen to me again. But for some time now I have noticed that I am falling back into old habits - and I am afraid of it.
I am happy to be here and hope that I can find help as well as give it.
I don’t have ED (which is something one would say). But I have been entrenched in diet culture for 19 years and has recently lost and regained pounds, all within a normal weight range. Right now I am learning to trust my own hunger and fullness cues as well as my desire to eat a variety of different things - turns out that my intuition gives me a very balanced meal - I love toast, oatmeal, peanut butter, carrots, chicken curry, lamb chops, 100% chocolate, wonderful seasoning. I have to admit that during the summer of COVID I was training and completed a marathon, which combined with my restrictions and calorie counting, resulted in absent menstruation for three months. I initially thought that was a good thing and I was even proud, but it is so very unhealthy. My mindfulness and listening my own intuition has been very successful and is gradually giving back the feeling of eating as a child. I have always overlooked ED, but I guess everyone who believes in diet controlling/reducing weight has the potential to develop it. I am open to learning about people’s brave stories on how they combat ED, and hopefully it can help friends around me with this tendency too!
Hi! My name is Nest! I'm thirteen years old and really like writing and art. My biggest goal in life is to be the first female president of the United States! I don't know if I'm struggling with an eating disorder, but I think I might be. I hope everyone is doing good! <33
@generousNest7576 Good on you for reaching out early!! The sooner you can stop an ED the better. What makes you think you might have an ED?
hey i'm alex, my pronouns are she/her, and i've had body dysmorphia since i can remember. i got diagnosed with my eating disorder a little over a year ago.
Hi I'm Steph,
I've been dealing with binge eating since elementary school. I yo yo diet and then gain all the weight back and more. I struggle with my binge eating that's triggered by my PTSD which then in return causes a deep depression and low self esteem. I don't feel it allows me to enjoy life and I'm really struggling. I hope I meet others that understand this struggle and know of ways that help them get through. Thanks
hi? i just got this and i really don't know what to do but im gonna try?
for a few years ive been fighting with myself and I've kinda been constantly on the edge of eating problems but recently i guess i just kinda snapped and i guess im not doing too good with it. nobody knows so i dunno
@lanjingyi Reaching out is the first step. Just snapping is normal, especially if you struggle with body image issues and at the same time want to eat. Getting that balance right can be tricky, but talking helps a lot. You're not alone.
Hi. I'm Heather. I developed an eating disorder when I was 13. Im 16 now, and I still have thoughts of purging, restricting, excessive exercise every single day. I feel like over lockdown I've gained so much weight and I hate my body at this point. I know I'll learn to love it, because everyone is different and even though I'm a healthy weight I feel ginormous.
Hello. I'm Auri, I'm 22, and I've had disordered eating since I was about 7 years old. The diagnosis is atypical anorexia, but I've never met anyone else with it.
I've been struggling the last few weeks... one of my roommates refuses to keep food/body/weight talk to a minimum around me, it's one of the reasons we're not friends anymore. But because of that, I've been falling back on calorie counting and limiting my food intake. It's hard because no one takes atypical anorexia seriously since I'm not severely underweight or anything like that.
My other roommate and my boyfriend help where they can. But I figured it would be a good idea to find a support group to help. I joined 7 Cups a couple weeks ago, so I hope this was as good a place to start as any.
Thanks.
