Introduce yourself to the 7 Cups Eating Disorder Community!
Hello people of 7 cups!
I am new to this commnity, and recently realized that I have BED. It may have existed before, but not to this degree in a while, and over the previous year I went from thin to heavy again as I ate my feelings. I'm happy to say I am keeping a positive mindset through it all, and have not let the failures or setbacks stop me from moving forward. I also try to be kind to myself as I watch my eating patterns continue, but I know that eating lots of food alone over a short period of time is not healthy.... and is not healping my body...
I think the first step to addressing a problem is admitting that it exists and going from there, and I am happy to be here now and in a better understanding of what is going on. If you're reading this I am sending love and light to you so that you have a wonderful day! It is a blessing to be alive in this world, and such a gift to be able to watch everything around us grow and evolve. Much love friends :)
@Sbk3
Hey!! I'm so proud of you for reaching out to get help. I know that's super tough. You have taken the first step and that's AMAZING!! I'm here if you ever need to talk about anything. I've been in recovery for about 2 years. I'm here if you ever need anything at all I'm here for you.
Hi everyone! I'm here because I my doctor diagnosed me with a BED. I've been using 7 cups to help with my depression and anxiety and I've seen some major improvement. I'm hoping to see the same improvements in this area of my recovery as well. I'm very new to all of this- I never imagined I could have an eating disorder because I'm fairly over weight. So my first goal is to fully come to terms with all of this. From there, I need to explore some coping mechanisms.. here's to a new journey!
@Jeta41
Hey I am Sierra. I've struggled with Bulimia and EDs for a long time and have been in recovery and beeem clean from ED behaviors for almost 2 years. I am very proud of reaching out on here for help. That takes a lot and shows that you are committed to recovery. If you ever need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here for you.
@crispSalamander95 thank you! I certainly will
Hi! My name is Abigail Gleghorn, and I've been struggling with Bulimia for about 2 years now. I'm a 15 year old girl and the oldest of 5. I came out to my family about my disorder last March. Although they've been very supportive, I wanted to connect with others who have this issue. I'm so glad I found 7CupsOfTea and hope I can meet and talk to other people with eating disorders.
@TheHappySkeleton

@lightLychee9215 - It can definitely be frustrating to be in a setting like that and feel like there are people trying to take over the whole thing! 1-1 can be a lot easier sometimes because you have the space to talk about what's on your mind without having to fight for space with the group. If you do still need someone to talk to, you're always welcome to reach out to me. Take care!
Helly everyone, Ink, and I'm a bundle of depression, anxiety, and probably BED.
I've been diagnosed with the first and not the second two, but during the past two years I've frequently had attacks of binge eating and have gained [edited by Anomalia to remove weight specifics] kg. During a previous time of stress I've gained [edited] kg, which I lost once the situation cleared up. Now I'm back up [edited] kg and I'm scared. I don't feel at home in my body at all and I notice that I'm eating to calm down, eating to get energy, eating instead of sleeping, eating to feel better, eating because I'm bored, eating because I'm stressed, eating because I'm worried or angry. I am not sure if binge eating is a horribly misguided coping mechanism or a problem in and of itself. Nothing so far has helped, though I think moving instead of bingeing would.
However, usually I lack the energy to do anything much, and at my current weight (edited), I can really feel my joints when I run. I used to love running and it gave me a lot of energy, but now, it makes my body ache and crunch. Walking is a bad replacement. I've started using a step counter to get energy and good feelings back a different way, but I slide off the wagon ever so often and I'm pretty scared and desperate.
@LightBlueInk - It can definitely be scary when you feel like the options you've tried aren't working the way you want them to, but I can see a lot of motivation and strength in your post that tells me you have the tools to get through this, but what you might be missing is the support to help along the way. This stuff isn't easy, and it's even harder if you feel isolated with it and like you're fighting alone all the time - that's exhausting! If it would help to have someone else in your corner, to vent frustrations at, to celebrate milestones with, and just to talk through it all with, you are more than welcome to message me. Be well, lovely, and good luck!
Good morning,
I am a 37 yo mother of 3. I have adopted kids and one biological children. My oldest has reactive attachment disorder and has been in and out of jail and right now barely speaks to me. My middles son is hearing impaired and lives with his dad so I only see him a few days per week. I feel guilty constantly for the divorce I went through due to the stress of living with our emotionally impaired child and my exes mother plus my own mental illness. I am remarried and my current husband is emotionally unavailable and I cannot share what I am going through with my eating or my children.
Recently I have begun binging and purging (I should say in my late teens I developed bulimia and while it got "better" it has been a struggle these last 20 years and never really went away) two to four days a week and now I a have begun restricting the types of food I eat and how much I eat.
I am so depressed and would probably try to end my life except for my children. I am overwhelmed by what is happening and cannot stop it. I know I need help but honestly cannot see how I will find time! I work 30 plus hours a week as a teacher, I am in school finishing my masters full time I take care of my kids almost all by myself...etc.
Just need help, advice anything.
@amarisk - It sounds like you're so busy helping everyone else, it's hard to find time to help yourself and you're not getting the support of others to help you. I'm really glad you reached out here because I think 7 Cups is a great place to find that support, but it's also something that is a lot easier to fit into a busy schedule than a lot of other options. You can come here in the 5 minutes you find somewhere, you can be on at any hour,etc. And if you want some more support, I'm always willing to help - you can message me and we can message back and forth when you have the time, even if it's not in a live chat where you have an hour, just periodic correspondance. Because you deserve support. You deserve health. You deserve happiness.
Hi im Sammie,
I have been struggling with various mental health issues (depression, self harm, eating disorder) for about 3 years. I have recently applied and have been accepted to a residential program called Mercy Canada. However, they dont give you any indication on when you will be able to move in. I have been waiting for 2 months already and it is extremely hard to be in this place of waiting. I just recently got a new counselor after coming home from my second year of university and she suggested 7 Cups. My support system is in Langley BC and I live on Vancouver Island so I have been struggling with lonliness and isolation. I was just told that I need to bring my energy levels up to be able to participate in the programs at Mercy Canada so that means i have to eat more. I really want to get into the program as soon as I can and I need some extra support as I try to eat more and cope with day to day struggles at home.
@Sammie1997 - Hey there - are you still waiting to get started at the residential program? I'm happy to help give you some extra support while you're waiting, if you want to reach out. I know it can be really isolating when you don't have people who understand to talk to and I would love to be here for you. Sending you strength and love!
Now I'm suffering.
I've been suffering for years. emotionally.
Foo Fighter is my savior at the moment. I don't know how to get by without them.
Also, many musicians have helped me along the way, over time.
If I were a millionaire, I would definitely sponsor great musitions. I've been feeling this way for years.
I'm suffering deep inside. I have no one to talk to about this.
"Help me please. I'm drowning. I don't know how to continute." I scream in my heart.
"Hi, how are you doing? That's nice. Congratulations. I'm so happy for you." I try to smile when with people.
I smile hard. I do my best. Though my energy is running low.
Sometimes I find it so difficult to even just smile. Good that I still have a smiling voice.
Please don't dismiss my smiles as pure retarded brainlessness.
I'm actually made of tears.
Don't detest me for my demormity. It's not a joke. It's pain.
@littleMaple7095 - I can relate a lot to that idea of hiding your pain behind a smile so no one realizes what's going on even as you're suffering through it. I hope that you feel like you can be open about that pain here and that you can get the support you need. *hugs*
Hi, I'm Dani.
I didn't know I had an eating disorder until practically yesterday, when I watched a documentary about one. That is when my entire childhood seemed to make sense. Before, I wondered why I used to do the things I would do- I definetly did not have losing weight on my mind back then. When I was 7 years old, I remember I started to throw up everything I would eat. My mom took me to the doctors, but I had no disease, so they told her it must be stress. I remember not being able to look at food, and feeling very scared for some reason. This lasted about a year, where I simply threw up everything I ate. After that, I vaguely remember around 4-5th grade I would not eat anything, but not for weight loss purposes. I wouldn't eat breakfast or lunch, but my parents would not notice because I would be at school, and not under their supervision. For dinner, I got a bit sneaky. I used to eat at a different place than the rest of my family, and take a paper towel. I would scrape the food into the towel, and hide it until I could throw it away or flush it down the toilet. When I did eat, I felt like I had to throw up for some reason. In 7th grade, I remember that is when I first got the idea of calorie counting. I made a chart, and mapped out all the calories I ate. It got really bad, but then my best friend's mom, who is a nurse, intervened and knocked some sense into me. It was hard, and I still struggle today, however I keep eating. I have gained [edited by Anomalia to remove weight specifics] pounds, jumping from [edited] to [edited], and although I am scared at my body changing I know that I need to remain healthy. Thank you for reading my story...
@courageousTown6339 - I'm really proud of you for recognizing what was going on and for fighting so hard for your health. You have made such incredible progress and that's really inspiring! You can do this, and if you ever need some extra support on the way, we're here for you!
Hello,
Ok really scared about posting here and I am not sure if I even have an eating disorder. Part of the feeling scared is because I have tried to read through posts here and sometimes I do not really understand them and at other times I worry that it might make me worse. Then I get to scared and stop, so sorry. I am Amalie and I am 13 as I said I do not think that an eating disorder but have problems or issues with food. When I was younger I got ill, really ill and as a result I had to learn how to do things again. One of those things was eating and it took me a long time feel safe eating by myself. I know that sounds silly but the fear was that it would stop be breathing.
Anyhow, to the embarrassing part of this now. I have lived in four countries so far but when we moved here, a new country I thought everything has to be done from the beginning again. Like making new friends, learning to understand accents, new school, just everything was new even though I had moved from the UK to Canada. They are both English speaking countries but really nothing is the same or at least it felt like everything was kind of odd. So I started making myself sick, mostly at school to be honest and it became so natural, so normal that it was something that helped me. Then I made some friends and a really good friend who I love but I could not stop making myself sick for many reasons.
So now it is kind of not a secret anymore and I cannot really do that anymore. I have not really made myself sick in a while but it is like fighting with myself about food. Sometimes it is ok to eat and other times it just.. well I do not want to eat. Not sure what else to say.. so I will leave it there hoping that is ok.
Ame
@AmalieAnne - I'm really proud of you for reaching out here - I know it can be scary sometimes to be open and honest about what's going on, or it can feel silly to say it all, but it's never silly to say what you're feeling and it's the best way to get support with these things! So thank you for sharing, and please always feel like you can share here when you need to open up or you need some extra support. Sending you a warm *hug* and a lot of hope :)
@Anomalia Thank you *hugs*
@AmalieAnne welcome and thank you for posting here. We do understand how hard it can be to talk about things. Know that here is a safe place and anytime you feel like you need to talk about this you can post here and there are also some great Listeners here as well that you can connect with if you want.
@IamOHhh thank you I am just a bit scared at the moment. I have to get more brave.
