Introduce yourself to the 7 Cups Eating Disorder Community!
Hey, I'm Sage and I'm struggling with eating a lot. My friend was helping me but I can't talk to her anymore, so now I'm starting recovery alone. Wish me luck!
@sage14 Welcome Sage!
It's too bad that you can't talk to your friend anymore, but you know, you're not really alone through your recovery, you have lots of people here who are all rooting for you and who are here for you!
and of course, best of luck!! You can do this ![]()
Hello. I'm Karla.
To be very honest I don't know what I have but what I know is that I have an abnormal appetite. I don't really eat much and the worst it has come down to was when I didn't eat anything except for biscuits and juice for almost 2 weeks, and at that time we were practicing for our Cheers and Yells competition, I was one of the main dancers and I had to run back and forth to the front and back lane three times really fast and at the end of our performance I started to cough and I was crying and catching my breaths, I lost weight and I looked really dehydrated. Currently, I am underweight - I weigh [edited by Anomalia to remove weight specifics] kg and since I am 5 feet flat the average weight is supposed to be [edited], My weightback then is [edited] so it is a lot. And now I'm still having this abnormal appetite, eating too much or little to none. And sometimes , when I smell food I get really nauseous.
@Karitzkyy - It sounds like things are feeling a little out of control right now - that's a tough place to be, but I'm really glad you're reaching out here. I think an important first step is recognizing that things have gotten out of hand and that it's time to work on healing. What do you think your next step might be to move in a healthier direction?
Hey my name is Lara. I'm 15 years old and I've been struggling with food pretty much my entire life. I used to eat massive amounts of food because I wanted to fill some sort of void. But I quickly began to really hate my body and food became my enemy. Now I'm stuck in an endless circle of binge eating and even making myself throw up and not eating at all. I don't know what to do. I can't keep going on like this but the thought of eating normal scares me so much.
@lost1701 Hello Lara!
I'm sorry to hear about the tough battle you're having to face, and I know that recovery can be a scary thought sometimes...change can be difficult, and it's hard to leave the things that we're used to. But, I think sometimes those changes can be great things, they can make us feel better than we ever thought we could. So, I hope you can get the courage to start on your journey to recovery
Actually, I guess you have already started, since you came here and you're sharing your story! That's an amazing first step. So thank you for joining us and for reaching out
Hello, I'm Hailey! I've been diagnosed with anorexic tendencies but I don't really know if that counts as an eating disorder but I feel like I'm getting worse.
@cheesebeans - Hi there, I'm glad you're reaching out! First of all, I don't think it's about what "counts" or doesn't, and more about if something is getting in the way of you being able to live happily and healthily, then it's time to get support with it to be able to move towards recovery. How have things been in the last month and a half? Are things still getting worse or do you feel like you've been able to turn it around a little?
@Anomalia sorry for the late reply but I
Um... hey there.
Guess I should introduce myself. I'm... still really nervous about talking to anybody on here, and brand new to having an account on the site so.... bear with me.
I've been going further into the depths of anorexia for a few years now... I guess I'm odd because I'm twenty-five and everyone else seems to have started in their teens. However, I'd say that at that time in my life I could've been diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder. Then I did a full switcheroo and now I'm anorexic (undiagnosed, because I kinda keep it secret from everyone and while I just got out of the hospital for other mental illness stuff and finally opened up about it... they didn't seem to give it a second thought, even when I was obviously practicing ED behaviors). I went from being [edited by Anomalia to remove weight specifics]lbs to my current weight of [edited]lbs. Not my goal weight, and I hate it.
My methods have become more and more extreme, especially as of late. Right now I'm not as anxious because my fast has been on track and I finished burning all the calories I wanted to for the day. But I'm.... so tired. I can't think straight. I'm getting to that point where I feel lightheaded... sometimes very lightheaded... a few times a day. I'm not even losing weight as fast as I want to, and I'm putting in all this obsessive effort because otherwise I freak out about it. But... I don't wanna stop. I can't. I wish there was a way to lose the weight that wouldn't cause me to have a breakdown or binge or something.
Eh.... I don't really know if I'll be active here. I'm just kinda... trying to branch out, I guess. See what else is out there. Try to figure out what to do. Sorry about the rambling, I didn't sleep last night. >.>'
But.. yeah. Nice to meet you all. I hope things are going okay for you, that you guys stay as safe as you can and that things get better for everyone who needs that to happen (probably just about everyone).
@Bendy
I'm 26 and sure, I had some bouts of disordered eating and food behaviors when I was in my teens, but they were always shortlived. I didn't develop my bad anorexic/restricting tendencies until I was 24. I hate how much people think this is a teenage problem--makes me feel small and foolish and kind of immature for having this problem--like I should be more of an adult or know better or something like that. So I get that feeling of being kind of an anomaly and developing this a little later on in life.
Hi! I'm checking in again. I've struggled with body consciousness since I was 5 (I recently turned 13) and I can't remember a time when I was happy with my body. Over the past year (March 2017 - March 2018), I've been getting even more conscious. I rarely eat decent sized meals and whenever I do, I refuse to eat for the next few days. I've been diagnosed with non-ulceric dyspepsia twice and I'm convinced that I may have something like an ulcer. I'm not sure if this is an eating disorder but I have brought it up with close friends and a parent. I'm starting a more intense work out regimen and I'm struggling with weight gain. I'm kind of afraid of it. Anywho, this is just to let anyone out there know that you are not alone! and that it is not your fault :(. Here's to getting better!
@yanahoo14 - Hi there and welcome to the ED support community - I'm glad you're reaching out! It can definitely be scary to worry about what impacts an eating disorder can be having on your body, but that's also an opportunity to turn things around and use it as motivation towards recovery. If you need some extra support, you're always welcome to reach out to me. Take care!
Hi guys! I am a 23 year old student of Mathematics. I suffer from bulimia, for about a year now. As my love for numbers grew, so did my love for tracking calories, summing up to less and less every day. Right now, I am on a four type of veggies diet when on regular days. Then, after I give in to all of my cravings, I purge. And you know the saddest part? Afterwards I am only worried about not throwing up everything.. I want my life back. When times get rough, I would like from any of you guys to feel free to message me, as I would do to you:)
@Heretotryit - I'm really proud of you for taking the first step and recognizing that you're not happy with where things have gone and want to turn it around. That's huge! It's not easy to recovery, but it absolutely is possible and it's very worth it. Maybe that love of numbers can be turned in a new direction to work towards recovery instead. If it would help to talk about it, you're always welcome to reach out to me. Take care - you can beat this!
Hi all! I'm a 26 year old woman, soon to be medical school graduate, and I've got a really *awesome* combo of ptsd, depression, and anorexia. PTSD goes back about 3.5 years to a work injury as a firefighter and my team debates back and forth if the anorexia's related to that or not (rather--I debate, they've all decided that its related). I started restricting a little over 2 years ago and things got really bad in fall 2017. My friends and roommates kind of pushed me into getting help and I've been working with my family doc, psychiatrist, and psychologist since october/november. I have a lot of the "not sick enough" thinking going on in my head, I think I'm fine and restored, and in a good place. I'm still super obsessive/compulsive about food and calories and definitely still restricting, but I'm also very honest with my team. I'm really looking for additional support since a lot of my friends will be moving away in 2 months.
@hexneffler - I'm really glad to hear that you've got some professional support and are working on recovery, but I definitely hear you about the challenge of having the friend support moving away, and I am proud of you for reaching out here for more support. You are always welcome to reach out to me if you want to talk about it!
As for what you said about your team thinking that it relates back to the injury from firefighting and you do not, I'd love to hear more about what feels wrong about what they are saying. I think often professionals can help offer perspectives that are hard for us to see, but there is also a lot that only you know about your journey, so balancing those two sides is important.
Hi, I am a 15 year old girl and I have had Selective Eating Disorder (SED), or Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), since I was about 4. I wanted to know if many other people have this disorder too..?
@MiniCarter I do! It sucks sometimes.. I'm 25 now and had it since I was about 3 or 4 too. Everyone says I'd grow out of it, think it's too late for that now! My mother has brought me to doctor's, dieticians, psychologists etc and nothing has worked. I've tried dieticians again and again and nothing. It's like this fear in the back of my mind, or my brain telling me I'm not going to like that food so no point in eating it! Hate going to fancy restaurants as they never have what I eat, I wish I liked healthy food like salads or vegetables but it's the opposite for me so struggle with my weight also. Im even considering trying hypnotherapy next!
Hi... Im a 28 year old girl with autism spectrum symptoms and am suffering from bulimia relapses for the past three years
I am not good with words... even though its difficult I am trying to speak up and find an answer or solution for myself. Ive tried telling people around me including closest family members but I knew from the way they responded that its not gonna help me. They tried their best to say the right things but unfortunately nothing they said was right to me.
I hate myself and the things I do to myself. All I want is to go back to the way I was. I was healthy and fit enough (just the healthy kind) back then and I remember eating anything I wanted and I never caused any change or even harm to my body. Everything changed when I started my current job. People judge my work based on the way I look instead of the actual content. I find it hard to please everyone. I started restricting and I was successful at first, lost a lot of weight and looked ideal to them. Then it all went into a full-blown binge-purge phase and till now Im still in the same horrible phase.
I run long distance or do Tabata at home when I had the chances just to cheer myself up but I know I was doing them only as punishments. Always always after a few weeks of very disciplined healthy eating and control, it comes back again and I start from zero.
I allow myself to sleep in my comfortable bed only when I see results, when I see that Im losing weight again, like a reward.
