Im 16 years old, female, and suffering. Im not underweight yet but I have such a strained relationship with food, Im terrified of it. Despite not being underweight its rare I let myself consume more than [edited by forum moderator] calories a day (going on for the last 2 months or so) and I constantly obsess over what I see in the mirror.

Its a fear that stems for appearance and relationships I suppose, I use to be with this guy who was massively into fitness, the type whod go on a run in the morning then the gym for 2 hours after school. I on the other hand would occasionally do yoga and maybe a swim once a week, the odd run here and there, nowhere up to par with him. I always felt so belittled by his motivation and fitness. Id try to do the whole daily routine, but I would become so obsessive regarding numbers that after a week Id just be sobbing on the floor thinking I was a failure. So I began to calorie count instead.

It started at just cutting down to [edited by forum moderator] , the number everyone said was safe and effective, but the results weren't quick enough. As my late bf got more and more healthy, I began to panic that Id become too fat and unattractive to be with a guy like him, like I had to live up to the standards of being seen with him. Thats where it all started I suppose. Long story short he broke up with me for reasons Im not sure of. Perhaps it was because I was fat.

I dont think I want him back really, and Im just terrified that if he left me, then no one else would want me for the same reasons.

Heya Erin!!! Welcome to the eating disorder support community! Proud of you for sharing your story & reaching out for support!!! How have you been feeling lately? What does your support network look like in real life? Sometimes it can feel like you are consuming enough calories but when we struggle with eating challenges one form of purging is by over compensating with excessive exercising. Hope you are having an awesome weekend so far!

Hello, I have been bulimic for 23 years. Ive never felt quite good enough and always been an emotional eater. This has been my secret and addiction for so long that it rules my life. Its a form of self harm and I quite often purge when stressed. My teeth have started to fall out and I get a lot of stomach pains. Got to the point now I cant deal with it and my mental health is failing.

hi, im new to 7 cups and this is my first post. I wouldnt say I have an eating disorder. however, im concerned with my eating habits lately. ive been in college for a year now, and feeding myself on my own is proving to be a challenge. without structured mealtimes or anyone watching over me to see that I get a nutritious diet I tend to not eat well. most days I dont eat until dinner time. some days all I eat are snacks because im too lazy to make food and all food sounds unappetizing. i feel hungry in my stomach but not hungry enough to eat. I never think about secondary effects. it hasnt started showing in weight loss, but id rather kick this before it does.

My name is Beatriz, and I'm 17 years old and I've been struggling with my ed for years. I would sometimes eat healthy stuff but still purge, restrict and purge, or only restrict, and I even had some almost normal months, but now I'm almost at my worst again. Restricting severely and purging sometimes, I lost a lot of weight very quickly, but it didn't releave me at all, and I'm trying to recover but I seem to be wandering lost. Maybe I'm here looking for recovery oriented place and support, instead of my usual tumblr crap. It's nice to meet you all, and sorry for the endless presentation

Hey, I'm Angelina. I've been dealing with an eating disorder for about four years now. Last year I was fully recovered and I was 100% better. This last month it seemed to come out of nowhere and hit me again. I've been wanting to exercise and get healthy and stronger physically. Every time I exercise though I end up restricting my food or fasting and it's not like I conciouslly do it, it just ends up happening.. I've been struggling and trying so hard to find a balence between exercise and eating a good amount but it's so hard for me to do. And now I feel like I need help again.. support from someone, anyone.

Hello. I'm not sure if it is what would be called a disorder, but I'm not sure it's healthy. I purge meals or foods that I consider unhealthy. So not all meals, just when I feel I've had too much in one day, or eaten something bad. I've read there can be bad side effects, but losing weight and being in control is more important right now. I am in no way underweight, in fact for my height I'm still considered overweight. I figure I'll do this until I get that under control.

Not sure why I'm posting, I guess I'm curious.

There's lots of informative posts, weekly check-in subforums, and amazing listeners that you can reach out to for extra support! I don't know if you have heard of the youtuber, Kati Morton? But she is a pyschologist who makes lots of informative videos about eating orders, like this one HERE You don't have to check it out, but I thought the video might help you for a staring point. Another good resource is the National Eating Disorder Association website called NEDA

Hope you are having an awesome weekend so far & I am looking forward to seeing your posts around the communty <3

Hi,

I'm 15 and overweight. The past year has been full of binge eating and since about 4 months I to started to throw up after binging.

This all is confusing because I thought my self-harm phase was over... But guess not?

Well nvm kisses

Effi

@0409 - Hi Effi, and welcome to the Eating Disorder community - I'm glad you're here! It can definitely be confusing to feel like you've moved past something and then feel it creeping up again or morphing (my eating disorder at times included restricting, purging, and binging so I'm definitely familiar with how things can shift while still having the same root issues).

I find that often both self harm and eating disorders fill a space for us as a coping mechanism for other stuff going on in life. What do you think some alternative coping mechanisms could be when those stresses come up?

Hello, I'm 18. During my adolescence I recognized I had an eating problem. I have a problem where sometimes I'll go days without eating, if it continued on in the course of a month, I wouldn't have ate much at all. Other times I eat my feelings. Sometimes I would purposely eat too much to either make myself throw it up or to make my stomach hurt so I could have something else to think about. I was always too scared to tell anyone, but even when I had periods of dramatic weight loss no one ever seemed to noticed: wish I would've told someone my thoughts about my problem, and maybe I could've gotten the help I really need by now. I feel like joining this community will help me become more open and maybe I could even find the help I need in this group. I'm trying to change up my diet and become better, to look healthier for my boyfriend, to look better and healthier for myself. Some changes are definitely needed in my life right now and I hope this one is for the better.

@waffl3baby - I'm really proud of you for reaching out - I know how hard it can be to suffer through this alone and I think that opening up here is a really big first step towards healing. I have found, like you, that often eating disorder symptoms can change, but still with some of the same root things - whether eating feelings or starving them, those feelings deserve to be talked about and addressed. What are some of the things that you think are sitting under this eating disorder that it helps to cope with?
