Hi I'm Brianna, usually go by Bree. I'm 22. I've been struggling with disordered eating since I was around 14. I'm not really sure what to say here. I've been hospitalized before. My disordered eating habits are affecting my relationship in a lot ways and I'm kind of just looking for some support in my recovery. I'm starting to feel like the people in my life are tired of dealing with my issues.

@nakulia - Hi Bree, I'm glad you reached out! I can definitely relate to how eating disorders can impact relationships and that worry about if the people in your life are sick of supporting recovery (this was a big fear of mine through my recovery journey). I hope that you find support here, and you are always welcome to reach out to me directly in PMs if you want to talk about it. heart

Hey so I'm Olivia.. a 15 year old girl from the US. I'm absolutely terrified of eating & gaining weight. Just looking at food disgusts me. I've been struggling with bulimia and anorexia for 2-3 years now. It started as just not feeling hungry and not having an appetite. I started losing weight rapidly. My family and friends started noticing and scheduled me appointments. Eventually I got told I have an eating disorder. I'm slowly recovering but I still have my relapses and I came here looking for support.

@LoyalOlive Welcome! I am really proud of you for reaching out for support- I can definitely relate to how even when recovering, those little relapses can still come up, and I think that being able to talk to people who understand can make a huge difference. Red heart

Hello. My name is Therese actually. I'm 22 years old, and I have been struggleling with food in many years. Since I was 13 actually. It started with me being really thin and small, and when I got to the puberty someone called me fat and a lot of people commented that I had gained weight. So I decided that I wanted to be skinny again. And I have fought that ever since.

It started with me beginning to skip lunch and later on breakfast. I didn't want to eat dinner either, but if I didn't someone would realise that I had a problem and I didn't want that. My mom realised that I had eating trouble at the age of 18, so I have hidden it for many years.

When I was 13 I also got diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and it made me loose control over my life and my ED got worse. I was bullied from I was 6 and 4 years forward. Then I got to a new school but after a while I wasn't new and fresh and people begun to ignore me, so I ignored them and got pretty isolated (But it helped going to boarding school. I got friends that wanted me for who I am, and my ED got a little better).

When I was around 15 I begun having different kinds of mental troubles. I was always scared of everything and I was terrified for the dark. I couldn't really get out of the house other than going to school and going to the stables. I never saw friends or anything. I didn't want to and I was scared of going new places and meeting with classmates, bc I didn't want to say anything stupid.

At 16 I went to boarding school at the other end of the country and my mental problems got even worse. I begun hallucinating, seeing things that wasn't there, and I got apathetic and depressed. Which was weird bc for the first time I had friends. My ED got better, as said before, but mentally I got worse. And I gained [edited by Anomalia to remove weight specifics] kgs from the day I started on the boarding school to the day I got home. Then I panicked.

When I got home from boarding school I started seeing a therapist. At first I got diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Then I begun hearing voices, and my hallucinations got worse. Then I got diagnosed with skizofrenia. Said in short: my life got a lot worse and I needed control even more than before. So my ED got worse. It became normal and I didn't feel like I had an ED, a problem. I got medicin and my skizofrenia and anxiety got better, but my depression never got better. I actually got "out" of my ED for a few years, or it became normal and I didn't think about it.

But it's only 3 years since I actually got the diagnose eating disorder non-specific, bc I restrict and fast, but I also throw up and binge. From I was 13 to I was 22 today I have gained [edited] kgs, and that made me "panic" again in October where the ED restarted itself, when I thought I could weigh myself without panicking. But I couldn't and now I back in hell.

@EvilRegalsReadToo - I think we've interacted some in the forums before, but I really appreciate you sharing more of your story here. It sounds like there have been some times when you've been able to move towards recovery, but that sometimes something changing or something making you focus on the weight again brings you back to those thoughts and behaviors. What do you think was different during the time when you got "out" of your ED for a few years? Was it something to do with the medicine that helped with your anxiety? Was there something else different in your day to day situation? Do you think anything from that time you could try replicating now?

Hi @Anomalia! :D

What do you think was different during the time when you got "out" of your ED for a few years?
I guess I had made piece with the fact that I was fat. And I let myself go. And when I realized how fat I have gotten I just panicked and that restarted my ED.

Was it something to do with the medicine that helped with your anxiety?
I got meds for anxiety yes, but it was not connected to when I got "out" of my ED. I started meds years earlier, and they helped a lot, but my ED was still running amok.

Was there something else different in your day to day situation?
I guess I was just so sick and tired of being well, sick and tired. Then I got hospitalized and I started to eat again. I battled my fear and was ok with eating for a while.

Do you think anything from that time you could try replicating now?
I wish I could, but the ED center doesn't want to help me. I'm too fat to be anorexic, they say. Even though I have become more like Multi-ED (with things from bulimia like throwing up, and binging too). So I just gotta wait until I get dangerously thin, and then they will help me again.

Hello,

I am currently 27 and was initially diagnosed with EDNOS when I was 17. Ive struggled with periods of not eating and making myself throw up for years. I gained about 25 pounds two years ago when I got put on Latuda. I have since lost it all in the past year after switching doctors and getting off that medication, but I still feel like I have to lose more weight. Ive been making myself throw up sometimes recently after not doing that for years, and Ill skip lunch more often than not. I hate the way I look and I cant seem to make myself think any positive thoughts about myself, despite my constant exercise and eating struggles. I weigh myself obsessively. Im at a loss as to what to do to make myself not hate my body.

Hi,

I have had an eating disorder for 6 years. I have never had help and Ive never been diagnosed because even though I think my parents knew when I was living at home, they dont care about therapy or mental health because they will just pray about it and call it good.

Everything started about a week before my 16th birthday and I am now 22. I moved out at 18 and live in a college town 2 hours from home where I am in my fourth year at school. I will not be graduating until next May, however.

I think I also struggle with depression and everything is always on and off. With my eating disorder I feel like I just cant control anything Im doing. When Im eating Im way over eating and I cant stop. If I keep this up, I will gain weight. Usually its on and off with overeating for days and starving for days. I used to go long periods of time with one or the other but now its just been a pendulum that never stops swinging.

i used to be overweight as a child and teen and my parents always made sure I was aware of it. I knew they were ashamed of me and I hated myself so much. I lost about 40lbs in three or four months and no one really cared, they were just happy I was skinny now, because I was less embarrassing to be seen with.

At 22, I am actually at my lowest weight ever since losing. Ive hated myself and body since I was 8 and I cant afford to get help. I cant even afford to see the school therapist. Im not really sure what to do now.

thanks for listening

Hi, I'm a chef with anorexia, i was hospitalized for it 12 years ago. I've had it under control for the most part but i tried dieting like a "normal person" after i saw my weight for the first time in a long time. I thought i could do it, I'm back into old habits though. I'm so conflicted about all of it. I thought talking about it with people who get it and/or help would be a good start to getting back in control. So here I am. Thanks for being here!

Hello, I'm Morgan

I'm a teen and I struggled with anorexia/eating disorder since I was 11. I got a lot better after nearly being hospitalized. It's been good, but recently it hasn't. I got into the old habits of throwing away food and now I don't really know how to stop. I'm really glad I have a community here. :)

Hey, I'm Ollie. I suffer from anoreixa that I feel is also linked with my gender dysphoria. As a child I always had problems eating (I would only eat bananas and yogurt as a baby) and I have a lot of sensory issues with eating certain foods (I'm also autistic). I think my fear of eating and gaining weight started from 10 years old but it could have been earlier in my life. I'm 23 years old now and I don't have a good relationship with my body. I want to recover from anorexia but I feel like treatment is blocked from me because I'm not bad enough and I can't afford to go private.

@honestStrawberries9118 hi Ollie, here's Nives from Italy. I feel u, so much. I'm 19 and I suffer from anorexia and bulimia since I was 15. Meanwhile I have asperger syndrome, that makes everything more difficult. My mum doesn't know anything about my eating disorder and I'm a student, so I can't afford a private psychotherapist. This situation sucks. If u want write me on private chat, we can help each other.
