I have struggled with bulimia & over exercising for 4 years. I have been working on recovering for over a year now. It hasn't been easy. Sometimes I feel like I'm fully recovered and then I look at my eating patterns and realize that I'm not doing as well as I thought. I'm trying to gain control over my life and know that my eating disorder doesn't define me.

You're absolutely right, your eating disorder does NOT define you. You're a beautiful wonderful being and recovery is absolutely what you deserve!

Hello everyone! My name's Kirsty and I've been recovering from both anorexia and bulimia for the past year now. I entered treatment after my parents realised and took me to the doctors. It's been a very very VERY difficult time involving lots of crying, but I can safely say I would not recognise myself this time last year. I'm so proud of how much I've changed. I'm almost sure I wouldn't be alive right now if I hadn't been given so much help and support from psychiatrists, family, friends, and 7Cups

Hi... I'm Claudia and I'm a 16 year old Bulimic. I feel awful that i do it because the people that know about it i see them hurting from what i do and i tried to stop but it's something that obviouslydoesn'tchange over night. I was really skinny (where i wanted to be at) with hip bones and ribs showing but recently i went over my friends house for about two weeks and i haven't been able to purge there so i've gained weight like crazy and it upsets me / frustrates the crap out of me.

@claudia422 - You're absolutely right that it doesn't change over night, but I think the fact that you see them hurting and that you're reaching out here are big steps. Opening up about your story is hard, and it took a lot of courage.

Gaining weight can definitely be scary, but not being able to purge for a couple weeks might be a blessing in disguise, if it's helping you break out of the cycle. Do you feel like you want to stop? If you're looking for some extra support, we have a lot of great teen listeners on here who would be happy to let you talk, vent, and to support you through this. Take care, sweetie!

I started purging at your age. I wish I could go back 12 years and hug myself until I loved myself. I urge you to get help- even if it means telling your parents or guardian. Mine didn't find out until I was 23 and it took a long time to become comfortable talking to them. It has ruined so many things for me. You can stop this. You can get help. I believe that you can. I just wish someone my age now had told me this when I was your age. I wish you the best of luck.

I am sorry you are going through a period of frustration. I hope you are able to find calm and or seek support in your family, friends or experts; this can mean the difference in your life experiences :)

@cookiesncream12 - I'm sorry to hear that you feel the need to starve yourself and that you made yourself throw up - I know the pressures to be thin can be so strong and so hard to avoid, but I think that you opening up here shows that some part of you might not want this to keep going. This can be a great community of support, and I hope you're able to find what you need here. Take care

@fradom - I'm so sorry to hear how much you're struggling right now. I can very much relate to that despair when you are still in the depths of your disorder, but everyone around you assumes you're fine because of your weight. I'm glad you're looking into seeing a psychologist - it sounds like it could really help. What are the potential obstacles to that happening? Take care, sweeties, and please reach out if there is any way that I or someone else here can help support you.

Im 19 I don't think my eating disorder had a name ill way once then starve myself for days. Ay first I would just forget to eat them I learned how fat I would lose weight and learned how to ignore the hunger pains. I used to cut and when I started cutting that's when this eating thing started and I just recently learned I may be pregnant I'm scared I'm gonna starve the baby in the process of starving myself

@reserveddragon24 - I responded in your other thread, but I wanted to reiterate that whether or not there's a formal name for it, it's a problem and you deserve help to get through it. Especially if you might be pregnant - it's important to start working through this now. There are a lot of great resources available, both on this site and elsewhere, and any of our listeners would be happy to help you find something that works for you.

HiI'm Laura, and english isn't my first language so be prepared for silly mistakes haha. My sister was anorexic and bulimic for a longtime a few years ago, but I think she's recovered now. During her difficult times I promised myself that I would never get an ed myself because I feel like my parents don'tdeserve to experience all that again. But lately I've recognisedthe same symptoms my sister had in myself, and I don't know what to do. I'm thinking about eating, calories and fat all the time, and after meals I want to throw up. I feel disgusted when I look at the mirror.I'm really afraid of loosing control over myself and finding myself in the same situation as my sister was. I just read that eating disorders can be genetic and that'sscaring me even more, I feel like I'm a lost cause already

@laurabunny - you are absolutely not a lost cause! The fact that you're recognizing these symptoms in yourself early is hugely important, as is the fact that you don't want to go down the path your sister did. Can you talk to someone about how you're feeling? Did your sister see a therapist or anyone as part of her recovery - could you meet with them? I think the best thing you can do to keep from going down that path is to be honest about what you're feeling and what symptoms you're seeing in yourself and gather the support and resources around you that you need to take care of this now. And if you need to talk, there are lots of great listeners on this site who would be more than happy to chat. Take care, sweetie, and stay strong!

Just saying hello. I'm 27 and have been struggling I eating disorders since I was 12 of not sooner. I've dealt with binge eating and anorexia by in the last year have turned to bulimia. I recently confessed this to my significant other (who I've only been with a short time now) and have agreed to get help. I'm looking forward to recovery but at the same time I'm in a state of panic right now. I feel like a drug addict who is having their fix taken away from them
