Hello there people...I'm really new to 7 Cups...I've never been one for talking with other people, especially about something so personal, so this is going to be very new for me.
I recently started developing the habit to stop eating, therefore limiting my appetite whenever I see food. The reason? I had started ballet and thought that I was too fat to be a ballerina. I needed to get the thin body that came with the grace and willowy feature of a ballerina. So it was hard at first. I would ignore the hunger and just drink water. Eventually, it turned into me being hungry, and I would just have to look at food to stop the hunger. I became weak and light headed. I got tired easily, but I couldn't get sleep. My body was always in pain. It was hard for me to keep focus.
I was basically killing myself.
So after some pushing, I've decided to get some help. So here I am...
@mysteriousmermaid1789 - Welcome! I'm really proud of you for making the decision to get help and I (and others!) would love to support you. I can definitely understand the impulse to try to lose weight to fit an ideal you see for a certain type of body, but one thing that helped me a lot was reframing some of this. For instnace, ballet requires an enormous amount of strength and endurance - those are things that come from a strong and nourished body, not one in starvation mode. Food gives your body the nutrients it needs to develop the muscles that power the dance.
@Anomalia
yeah I guess my logic isnt very good. Im just used to seeing the traditional pictures of ballerinas with a thin body.
@mysteriousmermaid1789 - It can definitely be hard when you see just one type of picture. But even when I look at those ballerinas, they may be thin, but they also have powerful muscles, and those muscles come from being nourished and cared for, not from starving.
Hey there guys, I
@JaKppo - I'm so glad to hear that you're improving and welcome to our little community here! :)
Hello, I am Haley. I am new to this community and I figured it was time for me to do something to help my eating disorder. I
@YourSupportGirl05 - Welcome, Haley, I'm glad that you're here! It can be tough when formal treatment isn't an option, but I agree that having strong support around you is an important thing to help with recovery, too. To me personally, recovery is often about taking small steps forward that add up over time, rather than about trying to make a 180 degree change all at once which isn't really possible. Today you reached out here which is a great step forward. What do you think a small step you could take tomorrow might be?
@emsworld

I see you are a teen, funnily enough I am actually hosted one at 2pm ET today (in around 20 minutes time from when I'm posting this!) If you are free, I'd love to see you there
I hope your week is going well, and that you are able to find the support you are looking for here on 7 Cups!
Hello everyone, I am new to group and website. I am Petra and currently dealing with a food issue I have had for years. I really do not know what else to add. I am fulltime college student studing legal studies with a minor in psychology , currently work in the legal field and been told, I always put others first. Some hobbies are shopping, makeup, having nails done, and photgraphy. I am pretty much a open book. If you have any questions please just ask.

@Niknic Welcome, Nik - I'm glad you're here!
Hi! I
@crs88 - Hey there, and welcome! I can definitely relate to that fear about slipping back down that path when wanting to lose weight in a healthier way. Are you currently in treatment of any kind - whether that's seeing a therapist, going to a support group, talking to a dietitian, etc.? It sounds like it could be an important conversation to have with a professional to understand first of all what weight is safe to lose in general, but also to talk about a pace and a strategy that would be appropriate and healthy for you. In terms of the urges / anger that comes with them, I think maybe working on them separately might help. For the urges, when do they most often come up? Are there times they don't? What is different in those times and can you apply something from that to the times that it's the worst? For the anger, what types of things generally help you through strong emotions - whether that's talking to someone, listening to music, doing meditation, etc. - what can help you work through that anger when it comes up?
